How Headhunting Companies Can Help Human Resources to Find Ideal Candi s AIM: The purpose of this research project is to outline exactly how the research objective of determining how headhunting companies can help human resources find ideal candidates. The reasoning behind why I will be writing about this topic is because there is a very high level of turnover in a number of industries and organizations. If an alternative method of staffing were to be established as having a better success rate than other (more traditional) staffing methods than it would be the case that this information would be of great benefit to both private an public firms. Furthermore whilst it is the case that there is a great deal of academic literature dedicated to recruiting and headhunting, much of these articles come from several years ago and it is the case that there is very little literature dedicated to this topic which takes into consideration the new economic climate that we live in right now.
Objectives: The objectives of this research proposal are to ultimately gain a better understanding of how headhunting companies can help human resources departments find ideal candidates. It is the case that this objective may be a bit too broad to answer in one sweeping generalization so the paper will first subdivide the research objectives into more manageable sub sections.
Firstly this paper will first perform an in-depth analysis of what the current recruiting business climate is like. In a way this hopes to provide in a snapshot of all the opportunities and challenges that a headhunting firm may be facing in an environment that is post recession.
Secondly this paper will highlight the current climate for a number of human resource departments. Whilst it is the case that any number of different human resource departments could be examined the focus of this research project will be on more specialized professions such as IT personnel or engineers. What this particular sub objective hopes to achieve demonstrate what weaknesses may exist in ht HR field as well as what difficulties a HR department may be facing in achieving its end goal of finding a suitable candidate
Next this paper will demonstrate exactly how a headhunting firm can find the best candidate for a HR department, and draw any relevant conclusions.
Business Benefits: The reasoning behind why this subject is to be examined is that it is the case that there is a research gap in the literature. As highlighted earlier much of the academic literature on headhunting is from several years ago. Whilst much of the past information may still be relevant it is the case that much of it may not take into consideration the contemporary challenges that HR departments may be facing in today’s environment eg. An environment that is post recession.
Information That I will Need: Of course it is the case that any good academic paper should start with a review of the most current academic journals and articles and this paper will be no exception. It is the case that a great deal of the current HR environment requires the input of a great deal of international candidates and placements given the new global business environment that we now operate in. As such this paper will not only draw on the vast resources of an academic journal database in the home country but also the international market.
The specific information that I will need before any reasonable conclusions can be drawn is what the effective trends are for the last ten years. It would be ideal for this paper to provide a metric for what percentage of candidates had been put into their current position as a result of a headhunter and then gather information on two different points.
Employee Satisfaction: How well the employee finds the fit with the new organization and how satisfied they are with the placement as selected by the headhunter.
Customer (firm) Satisfaction: How satisfied are the firms with the candidates presented and placed by the headhunting firm.
To effectively address the research objective this paper will also need to draw on some primary data. To achieve this ends, the best possible solution is to conduct interviews with people working in both the HR field as well as in Headhunting businesses. Whilst under ideal circumstances it would be best to conduct face to face interviews it is the case that this may prove to be costly and as such telephone interviews would suffice. Secondly it is the case that the information gathering method that will be used for these interviews will be semi-structured interviews. Theoretically this interview method would promote the interviewees to freely express their opinions as to why headhunters may be best equipped at finding the right candidates. Lastly the focus target for the interviews would be preferably HR recruitment specialists with headhunting firms, industry analysts, representatives from HR departments as well as their respective industry analysts.
Resources I Will Need
Anticipated Challenges: One of the most obvious challenges that is expected in a paper with this topic is the gathering of primary data and secondary data.
Project Time: With this paper the project is to be broken up into five different stages each one lasting exactly two weeks
Stage A-Project Planning: During this phase much of the preliminary research will be conducted. During this stage information will be gathered from a plethora of different academic journals. Furthermore during this stage a perspective interviewees will be identified.
Stage B-Interview formulation: During this stage the research questions that will be explored with interview candidates will be examined and the first contact will be made with the potential candidates.
Stage C- Data Analysis: During this stage the bulk of the gathered data from the primary and secondary data will be analyzed in a relevant way in order to determine any meaningful conclusions
Stage D- Hypothesis generation and paper writing: During this stage the actual hypothesis and conclusion will be established and most of the time will be dedicated to actually writing the bulk of the paper
Stage E-Revision; During this stage most time will be dedicated to revising the paper to ensure that any conclusions are presented in a meaningful way.
Declaration: I declare that I have read and understood the university statement on plagiarism
I confirm that I have not committed plagiarism when completing this paper nor have I colluded with any other student in the preparation and production of this work
