Lecturer Core Competency Questions Question Situation of communicating information to a group of people I informed the parents ofone of my friends, about the gay nature of their 20 year old son in Germany. My communication on homosexuality was effective because I discussed the issues with the father first and there after the mother of my friend. The discussion centered on the fact that homosexuality is not a shameful act, and that their son needs a lot of love, understanding and support. The most significant method of discussing with the parents the sexual orientation entailed; stressing that the son’s behavior is not in any way connected with upbringing practices, but a practice shared by millions of happy people worldwide.

The most challenging experience concerned my friend, who thought that his sexual orientation is not normal. This challenge was solved through giving him appropriate counseling, and making him understand that millions of homosexuals are happy with their sexual orientation. Question 2: Situation of putting extra effort in performing a taskPerseverance is important because it ensures awareness on a national problem is adequately created. For example, fundraising awareness and project for the organizations taking care of children with disabilities.

The fundraising campaign was a success due to the folk music group which raised money through performances in charity events. The fundraising awareness was a success due to proper management of the campaign. My leadership practices entailed leading my group members through examples, by working hard in meeting the campaign targets. The idea of raising money through folk song performances was most effective for the campaign, because my family members always sung folk songs at home. The most challenging part of the fundraising campaign entailed keeping the folk dance group focused during rehearsals.

This challenge was overcome through motivating the group members by reminding them of our ultimate aim of providing finances to the disabled children. Question 3: Example of a Challenging SituationA challenging situation occurred when a college had an accident at the workplace. The situation was difficult because she fell down the stairs and hurt her knee. I responded to this situation by immediately making her comfortable, and then taking her to the health facility. The reaction was effective because, the patient got medical attention in time.

The most important consideration during the accident was proper emergency planning. This involved conducting first aid to monitor seriousness of the accident and the timely arrangement of transport to the hospital. The challenging experience during the accident is that I was tired already from the day’s work. I overcome this difficulty by constantly reminding myself that my colleague totally depended on me. Question 4: Necessity of showing understandingI have shown sensitivity in one instance, when I approached and talked to an old lady who looked confused and lost near the train station.

I made her remain calm and confident; so as to remember where she was going. My approach to the situation was effective because, I took adequate time in assisting the old woman to understand her problem, and find appropriate solution. This enabled her to calm down and remember the station she was going to. The most important consideration in this case was the fact that many elderly persons have memory difficulties; hence they should be assisted in public places. The most challenging part of this case entailed earning the trust of the old woman.

This was through engaging her in polite discussion on her destination station. I also earned her trust through assisting her wait for the next station.
