Other lawyers that accompanied Garcia was; James de Anda and Chris Alderete. Garcia’s argument was that the fourteenth amendment assured protection not just on the criteria of race, blacks and Caucasians but also class. The jury selectively discriminated the Mexican-Americans on the basis of class. The state of Texas openly excluded the Hispanics on the pretext that the fourteenth amendment only sheltered the whites and blacks and that the Mexican- Americans were a section of the whites. This was not justified as most Mexican-Americans were legally isolated since for over years no Hispanic served in the jury (Prince, 2010).

...The Power Of Women In Umuofia. The position and image of women in "Things Fall Apart" is an important topic. We could even say that women actually had great power and were revered. One might think that this novel presents women as a sadly oppressed group with no power, but there are several facts, which imply the contrary idea. For instance, women are the primary educators of children. Through story telling and other forms of discourse, they educate and socialize the children, inspiring in them intellectual curiosity about social values, relationships, and the human condition. The stories the women tell also develop the artistic consciousness of the children, in addition to entertaining them. The women bear children, cook...

...Things Fall Apart Roll No: Teacher: 23rd February 2009 Things Fall Apart Things Fall Apart by Achebe keeps the theme of colonization at its center. What Achebe portrays about Africa and its people is a well developed and complex society, in which people have their own traditions and culture. The people are close to their cultures and this intimacy makes them to follow their traditions and laws. The protagonist of the novel, Things Fall...

Things Fall Apart Essay
...Conflicting Values in Things Fall Apart: Things Fall Apart is a book that presents a genesis of Okwonko’s journey, from the traditional practices of the Igbo, to the introduction of Christianity by the white men. The cultural value of the traditional Igbo people was patriarchal. It was the responsibility of women to bare and raise children. Their duties were also to engage in farming, and prepare food for their male counterparts.
