The image was common in the Roman vaults of earlier centuries, but there are essential advancements to be witnessed in his adaptation. As opposed as to being depicted as an atypical countryman, this Good Shepherd has a great golden halo, throws on a royal purple mantle over a golden tunic, and clutches a towering cross. The vault in the south niche, underneath the mosaic of St. Lawrence, is particularly imposing. It bears no Christian cryptograms and was possibly a heathen catacomb of noble Roman.
