George Patton’s perception by German public Introduction George Patton was born in San Gabriel on 1885 and attended West Point Military Academy but had to leave due to poor performance. He had a talent in sports and despite his low intelligent quotient, he read widely in classics and military history. He had great interest in the story of Mosby and, thus, longed to be a general himself. Patton’s family was military based, as in the times of General Hugh Mercer, his ancestors were part of the military that made revolution in America (Rice 58). For the rest of his life, Patton lived at war. The Second World War was the highest point of his military culmination in his life. He did not fight due to any principle nor did he fight because he wanted freedom, he simply fought because he loved to fight. During his early life, he had fear of flunking out of the West Point due to terrified prospect since he was sure that he could not make anything better than being a general. Thesis General Patton was the most outstanding, the most daring, original, and honest allied general in the history. General Patton had an account of superb fiery in integrity, intelligence, was exceptionally brave and feared no authority (Patton 254). He realized great successes, which ultimately made him a legend of his time. For his demise, General Patton was murdered by what translated to be commercial assassinators from the office of the Strategic Services. Germans perception towards George Patton General George S. Patton, the commander of America’s third army, became the military governor of the greater portion of Germany occupied by Americans. He had qualification to become the field commander and suited for higher command in the strategic planning (Patton 287). These were the assumptions of Germans but Patton corrected them as he emerged as a superior leader of the European theater during the Second World War (Rice 184). The Germans attitude, opinions, philosophy and prophesies towards General Patton underwent correction during the wartime. The Germans had a positive attitude towards General Patton and constantly held that if his valuable pieces of advice were heeded, the problems faced by the westerners during the cold war would not have existed. Patton, according to Germans, gave his understanding and apprehensions for the future of the nation to his acquaintances and government officials (Brown 346). He bitterly disagreed with the fearful danger posed by the Soviet Union several months before the end of the Second World War. He supported the idea of having his army held back to wait for the Red Army to occupy the vast stretches of Germany. According to Germans, George Patton was a colorful military leader in the 20th century and is the most much-written-about American general. He was the most outstanding, original and the most honest allied general of the Second World War. He has credit of an account of being fiery of integrity, brilliant and exceptionally brave (Hirshon 97). Patton realized a lot of success during his regime, which made him a legend of his lifetime. The true person of General Patton Characteristics of Patton depicted him as a contradictory man. He had a unique brand of leadership, a role he cultivated and fully exercised. Patton managed to get a supreme effort from the fellow military men. As a leader, Patton was exceptional. His character explains his treatment for men. He was always considerate to those who were wounded during a battle but he was merciless to those who could not stand the horrible strains of the war imposed upon them. Patton did not comprehend that other people did not like his passion for violence. This character of violence was very evident in the life of Patton. Patton had immense talents and natural ability; hence, he could antagonize everybody within his reach. He also had a lovable characteristic of turning on his subordinates once they surpassed him in their careers. Patton demonstrated fear and respect for the higher compliment. Despite his fear and respect, the Germans feared Patton more than any other allied general, specifically in the west front. The German officers prophetically predicted that Patton could not enjoy life without war. Patton had a great ability to use his common sense to enjoy and effectively handle the physical world (Hirshon 104). He was a down to earth man capable of managing practical affairs through working and taking care of the daily living business effectively. He hit his highest point of the military career during the Second World War. He used his daring assault tactics to lead the US army to the victory at the invasion in Sicily. The third army swept across France capturing town after town under the leadership of Patton (Patton 296). Patton has the wide recognition of his common phrase, “We must keep advancing whether we go over, under, or through the enemy”. This phrase is often associated with the success of Patton in almost all his war attempts (Rice 251). Germans attitude towards General Patton Different people of the German society understood George Patton differently. Germans distinguished him as a great man since his early life in the military career. However, Patton recognized communism as the true enemy national development in the modern society. He saw the American as having the potential to be powerful allies in the future of the world. He struggled against Hitler and wanted to solve the problem of communism and Stalin. Most of the Germans perceived Patton as a quite legendary man with quality performance. He had a breathtaking effect of his performance upon public perception (Yiede 614). Germans termed Patton an aggressive general whose tactics were orthodox but successful. Other Germans suggested him to be the commander of the United States during the invasion period. They preferred him to be the decoy rather to be in the front line of the Normandy. They said that this would have been more of a success because Patton had an intimate relation with the allied commander, General Eisenhower. The relationship of Patton and Eisenhower was a wonder to many. The words and action of the two gave a clear understanding of their relation. Patton acquired general public respect because he was a warrior and could do anything to end or start war. Patton was an ever-talking person but always kept his words. He could relinquish threats to even the commanders until in 1944 when he was the commander of the third army in France. The Germans considered George Patton to be an icon in the buildup of the American history. They termed him great in the decision-making towards the few flaws that befall the American military, especially in the combat of the fatigued soldiers. The Germans believed that Patton was the master of strategies charged across the France fight against the Germany resistance (Yiede 568). Germans, in the first place, did not think that Patton could be a major strategist of a good tactical armor leader. They went as far to say that Patton was the most experienced armor leader among the generals. General Patton believed in some slogans mainly quoted from his writings. He believed that a good solution applied with vigor is better than a perfect solution applied many times. In most cases, when Patton wanted something done, he would command the staff to do it. He did not entertain the prima donnas and worked closely to the junior workers (Hirshon 128). The military workers who lived with Patton realized what he wanted so they did what he often expected. George Patton was highly decorated as the war hero after the army victory in the various campaigns (Patton 312). Patton had a task of controlling a large portion of America occupied by the Germans. His main task was to dole out justice to the newly defeated enemy. Patton started to get a grip on what really transpired around him after the end of the war in 1945. He started to become acquainted with the defeated Germans in the Americans soviet allies. He recorded all his realizations about the war in his dairy and letters that he wrote to friends and family members. Patton was the most war oriented person and the youngest master of sword as well. He redesigned the sword carried by the army personnel into the Patton saber (Rice 314). This is the staff used up to date in the US military. Patton competed several times in the Olympic Games as well, participating in shooting, running and swimming events. He was also a valiant fighter and a pioneer of the armored forces. Conclusion Projects of George Patton concerning the world are really versatile and considerable. In all the projects, George Patton exhibited outstanding qualities as the most original, honest, and exceptionally brave General. Through his trials to make the lives of others better, Patton exhibited fiery integrity and brilliance in tackling emerging issues (Yiede 741). He had great respect for other Generals, for instance, Eisenhower, though they were less significant in their influence. He also had respect for the seniors in the official ranks. The assertive personality of George Patton always made him a winner. This made him the most written General in the 20th century with strong virtues of honesty and integrity. All these made Patton a legend of his time. Patton realized great success to a level of being an envy of others. Commercial assassinators from the Office of Strategic Services which Patton always opposed murdered him in a failing attempt to re-write military history. Work Cited Brown, John.
