Other medical services comprise IV Infusion Therapy, specialised Alzheimer’s care, tracheotomy care, wound care management, rehabilitative nursing, occupational and speech therapy, etc. Respite care of the hospital provides clinical, psychological and emotional assistance through caregivers for patients who require additional support. Social Services of the health care center include volunteer programs, café dining, special outing, family gatherings, social service care planning, spiritual services, and skilled nursing support.
Nursing facility care for long and short term is discussed by the hospital administrator with nursing providers and it is considered during the development of request for proposal. This allows the medical officer to shift the patient to home with the aid of community based services.
The hospital management team calls for a meeting and presentation of the requirement to several staffing companies and propose the submission of the request for proposal for various requirements like nursing facilities, home care providers in pharmacy, home health, DME, personal care and rehabilitation, managed care organizations, etc. (Regional Model)
The shortage and high turnover of nurses in hospitals in the region resulted in annual spending of $38.5 million in the year 2001 which is a 74 percent increase over the previous year.
