?Kosair Children’s Hospital Kosair Children’s Hospital Children’s hospitals are specialized healthcare s that provide specialized health care services to infants, adolescents, and children. Pediatric care services are among the specialized medical services that are provided in the children’s hospitals. The pediatric care services provide all kinds of medical problems and care designs that affect kids. Notably, not all kids experience same medical problems experienced by adults. Therefore, different children’s hospitals offer different and varied specialized medical services to kids. Moreover, the quality of these medical services varies from hospital to hospital. Kosair Children’s Hospital is among the Kentucky Children’s Hospitals. The Kentucky Children's Hospitals play critical roles in the health care systems. They provide specialized outpatient and inpatient hospital services to children. They also educate public on health care issues including training of pediatricians, children’s medical care, and pediatric subspecialists (Sheldon, Ferber, and Kryger, 2005). More importantly, the Kentucky Children's Hospitals often conduct research on diseases and medical conditions affecting children within this region. These medical researches on children health problems help in addressing the advancing medical problems and conditions in children. Introduction Health care services are vital services to humanity especially children and infants. The first health care services were introduced in health related development programs in the 1950s. Some of the health promotions services that were introduced during this period were maternal and child health care services that include healthy nutrition, immunization, and preventive health measures. In the year 1985, the health care promotion intensified with serious concern shifting to children’s health. USAID supported most of these children survival projects with much focus in Asia, Latin America, and Africa (O'Malley, 2011). Nonetheless, these Medicare services of the 1950s were crude and needed improvement. However, the advancement in technology has improved quality of health care services provided in healthcare institutions. Therefore, since the mid-20th century, the world has benefited from numerous effectively health care services that have improved the healthcare services to both children and adults. The children’s health care technical interventions have taken a different direction with high concentration being in healthcare facilities. Children’s health care projects and interventions are designed to prevent both maternal and childhood diseases that may interfere with the health children. Therefore, certified pediatricians, physician’s assistants, and certified nurse practitioners are committed to providing quality, comprehensive, and compassionate healthcare services that meet the health needs of children (Kosair Children's Hospital 2012). However, different healthcare institutions offer different quality and intensity of commitment to patients. Therefore, patients or parents often opt to taken their children to hospitals that satisfy their children medical needs. Additionally, some patients or parents will opt to seek these services from hospitals that they have had experience. Thus, I chosen the Kosair Children's Hospital since it is where I gave birth to my daughter. Notably, she was born premature and had to spend 31 days for her health to stabilize. The Kosair Children's Hospital The Kosair Children's Hospital is obligated to providing health care services to children. It ever conducts numerous health care researches towards improving the health care services it provides to its clients. The hospital often operates in collaboration with other institutions including the Children's Hospital Foundation through the generosity of Kosair Charities. Currently, the hospital’s administration is dedicated to supporting infrastructure provision and training to pediatric scientists towards pioneering directions of new medical research. The hospital also aims at continual growth through pediatric research and implementing a “bench to beside” philosophy (Sheldon, Ferber, and Kryger, 2005). The hospital is currently working on research programs that intend to providing excellent housing facilities to patients and their families. Some of these programs include diabetes research, sleep and neurobiology centers, as well as expending tumor biology and outcome research centers (Kosair Children's Hospital 2012). The housed programs are being expanded potentially through collaborative research. The hospital’s new facilities aids at providing state of the art laboratory design and equipment that will support innovation thereby maximize its efficiency. In areas including the informal lounge, the hospital intends to collaborate with other researchers from a different discipline towards improving its Medicare services. The hospital has been setting aside funds annually towards achieving its goals and objectives. Additionally, it has been lobbying from other organizations including the National Institutes of Health (O'Malley, 2011). Through its research center, the hospital is determined to discover the fundamental problems of the pediatric disease. History of the Kosair Children's Hospital The Kosair Children's Hospital can be traced from the Norton Healthcare. The Norton Healthcare started as Episcopal Church’s Home Mission Society of St. Paul Catholic Church. Mary Louise Norton was the leader of the St. Paul Episcopal Church’s Home Mission Society. Thorough her leadership and fund raising ideas, in 1886, she managed to create The John N. Norton Memorial Infirmary from the St. Paul Home Missionary Society. In fact, she named the institution in honor of her late husband. For many years, the systems of this hospital were tremendously influenced by different religious groups (O'Malley, 2011). Some of the religious groups posed immense influence to this hospital. These religious institutions included the Episcopal Church, the Louisville Catholic communities, United Church of Christ, and the United Methodist Church. All these institutions dedicated their ideas and supports towards promoting health and medical services and care to the less fortunate and the sick. The Norton healthcare has currently become the largest healthcare organization in Kentucky with more than forty locations around and including Louisville, Kentucky. Since its foundation, Norton had grown into numerous healthcare centers and services. Some of services provided by Norton healthcare include pediatrics, orthopedics, women's services, stroke care, cardiac care, advanced surgical services, and cancer diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, as well as a neurospine center. It is worth noting that the Norton healthcare is a nonprofit making organization (Kosair Children's Hospital 2012). Later in the year 1892, the St. Paul Episcopal Church’s Home Mission Society established the Norton's Kosair Children's Hospital. The Norton's Kosair Children's Hospital was dedicated to assisting children who had different forms of injuries and illnesses. Notably, for over 30 years, over 99 percent of the Kosair children’s hospital workforce consists of volunteering members and staff. The Kosair children’s Hospital is the only freestanding hospital in Kentucky that offers full children services (Sheldon, Ferber, and Kryger, 2005). The hospital has 263 licensed patient bed spaces. Health Care Provision at Kosair Children’s Hospital The hospital provides some of the best medical care services to children. The hospital programs cover different services but relevant aspects of medical care and treatment for children. Furthermore, it provides friendly and family centered environment that provides the needs child towards their quick recovery. Therefore, the hospital has not only been the catchment of children from Kentucky but children across the country even the world. This indicates that the hospital offers quality and internationally recognized services (Kosair Children's Hospital 2012). Moreover, being a center of pediatric training for university students, the hospital is exposed to national recognized programs for research and training programs. Statistically, the hospital often admits over 200 children daily, this is a sizeable number that indicates the status and efficiency of the hospital. In addition, the hospital has excellent nursing services that are recognized by the status of the hospital as the Nurse Magnet facility. Other resourceful facilities and services to patients and families offered by this hospital include computer workstations, sleeping areas for patients and siblings, and a family resource center. The Kosair Children's Hospital Research Institute is the future backbone of Kosair Children's Hospital. The performance and competitiveness of Kosair Children's Hospital with other hospital will depend on the effective of the Kosair Children's Hospital Research institution (Sheldon, Ferber, and Kryger, 2005). It is crucial to investigate how the leadership of this research institution is strategizing to accomplish its mission towards improving children’s health. Additionally, it is will be advantageous for the Kosair Children's Hospital community to analyze and understand the importance of collaboration of the University of Louisville and the hospital. Are the student helpful to the Kosair Children's Hospital Research Institute (KCHRI) and the hospital itself or are they just gaining from the hospital. Finally, it would be beneficial to investigate how the Kosair Children's Hospital Research Institute (KCHRI) will maximize its returns to hospital thereby helping in the improvement of the children’s health care services (Kosair Children's Hospital 2012). Nonetheless, if the Kosair Children's Hospital Research Institute (KCHRI) accomplishes its underlying research goals and objectives, the Kosair Children's Hospital will be among the national and international Children’s Hospitals.
