Professionals who portray moral courage understand their roles and responsibilities in their workplace. This is because moral courage is the foundation upon which ethical actions are based in professions. In the case of the nursing profession, nurses who are morally responsible have capabilities of recognizing and responding to unethical values in order to provide quality health care to patients. The foundations of quality nursing responsibilities include practices such as nurse care acts, guideline specialties, and facilitation of codes of ethics in their profession.

The familiarity of these practices will allow nurses to question actions and practices in their workplaces which they believe are not right (Lachman, 2009).Ethical principles and professional codes of ethics are important in guiding actions that are sufficient in providing better services in healthcare. This is because moral ideas are required so as to facilitate an individual’s obligations in the workplace. In addition, nurses have moral a commitment that they should make to their coworkers and patients.

This can be enhanced through holding virtues such as compassion, faithfulness, love, and sympathy in their working environment. Therefore, nurses who perform their duties under moral courage are always committed to the welfare of their patients regardless of their individual’s risk. Additionally, the responsibilities of morally courageous nurses are to ensure the success of their patients by offering guidelines, advice, and supervision to them. They offer all these services despite the ethical problems they encounter (Lynton & Lyndall, 2000).

The decision of healthcare professionals to work under moral courage is highly influenced by the degree of conflict that arises between individuals and other directors in the organization (Aultman, 2008). This is because nursing practices in healthcare environments today have higher complexities of ethical and moral issues. Therefore, nurses encounter these issues in a situation in which their ability to practice the right thing is hindered by conflicting beliefs and values from other health providers in healthcare.
