? Wellness and self-efficacy in health In this 21st Century, there are remarkable debates on the issues circling the health sector. It is the main living aspect of human being and hence its huge concern. This context tries to constitute and reflect on health measures put in place in higher institutions of learning. It is an area that students and other faculty are seriously ignored by many. It also monitors the substantial relationship between self-efficacy and wellness among these students. This inscription does also excogitates on the ideology that college students are the most vulnerable to positive developmental changes globally and this is the main reason as to why they quest for higher education. Their health is also approaching risks and for these reason there is constant pressure to monitor and maintain high standards of fitness to prevent emergent self-inflicted diseases. Health is indeed an essential thing in a human life. It is for this reason that every human being is expected to maintain a healthy body and that is by following the basic rules of a healthy living for instance keeping yourself and the environment clean and taking balanced diets (Turnork, 2003, pg 76). This article looks at health efficacy among students in college. College students are targeted since they are at a perfect age of making their own decisions as the stage is a transition to sovereignty (Sidman, D'Abundo, & Hritz, 2010). In this case they are free to do as they please. They engage in long term behaviors such as drinking of binge and smoking which are considered to be harmful to one’s health. The rise of concern has made institutions to focus on courses that provide skills, beliefs and knowledge with the aim of developing lifetime behaviors. In order to achieve this self efficacy has to be examined in relation to wellness. Wellness is a multidimensional condition of a person describing the presence of irrefutable heath in a person as demonstrated by life quality and well-being. The concept of wellness is represented by the whole dimension of a person that is the body, mind and spirit. Educators have played a role by implying that wellness and health are influenced by feelings, behavior and thought s. In order to keep a good health, change to a positive dimension is vital thus behavior is equally important. Physical activities are directly related to psychological health and its effects that is, the risk of acquiring diseases is reduced, and control of weight is enhanced and improves the moods of a person. Research has been done and it has come to be discovered that in order to increase physical activities among people especially in a long-term duration, self-efficacy has to be uphold. This is because it is much easier to use the concept of belief to change certain characters in a particular population (Cheneworth, 2011, pg 54). Health revolves around behavior as when a good lifestyle is endorsed then health does not become an issue of much concern as it will come naturally. Self-efficacy is described as the belief of a person’s potential to change behavior. Self-efficacy is a measure of physical activity. For people to develop health wise, they must engage in physical activities that will in turn lead to a positive change in their health (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2009 pg 6) Self-efficacy comes to play a role in the sense that when one wants to achieve something he has to have a belief in the steps he or she is going to take to attain his goals. In the case of health, in order for people to develop good help, they must put their belief in physical activities which will steer up their health improvement. Self-efficacy promotes physical wellness. Physical wellness refers to the aptitude of a body to operate effectively and to counter all the expectations required of it without strain. Physical wellness is achieved by keeping the body fit through physical fitness exercises. Physical fitness involves strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. According to research, collage students who have high self-efficacy are not likely to have exercise relapse. Exercise efficacy anticipation in college among students has been looked into and the results being that more efficacy scores are among those students in the upholding stage of transformation. Among the undergraduate students population, self-efficacy was considerably related to wellness and all its subscales that is spiritual, psychological, intellectual, physical and emotional. Social wellness does not relate to the exercise of self-efficacy. In this study the exercise of self-efficacy is a predictor of emotional, physical, intellectual and psychological wellness. This analysis is of importance as the relationship between exercising efficacy and wellness hasn’t deeply been explored. Students with more rate of practice self-efficacy have a higher chance of likelihood to recognize overall wellness. People prefer to stick to their physical exercise schedule than have an extra time for it. This is to mean people do not involve passion when it comes to keeping fit but do it for the sake of seeing a change. Self-efficacy becomes equally important to wellness as one believes that the reason why he is following his schedule is for the purpose of keeping a good shape and maintaining body functions but not exercising to strain it (Young, 2011, pg 127). Pertaining from my personal point of view and from past experiences, I believe that college students care less on their health due to the outside pressures of studies, entertainment and illicit practices such as drug abuse which have long term and adverse effects on their health. Their rate of fitness is reduced since there is less time allocated for the exercises. They are also supposed to consider nutrition and it values to ensure a continued healthy life. Health is considered to go hand in hand with self-efficacy. In order for people to develop wellness, the concept of belief in something and striving to achieve it should be a policy to be followed. It is time for students to crop up skill that will enable them to have positive and long term behavior change. Health practice should be included in the curriculum and courses that deal with health practices should encourage its students to do more research and advocate for better health in their various institutions.
