Gender inequality between men and women has raised controversies in the past decades. This was influenced by the need for equal representation and treatment in major areas for both genders. Despite the many changes that have taken place concerning equality for both genders, the achievement of gender equality remains an issue of concern. This is because of the different arguments that women and men have concerning each other. Gender inequality is an issue of reality, which greatly affects the feminine gender as opposed to males. With the current advancements and improvements that are evidenced in women, gender inequality should have no place in society. Men and women have access to opportunities in life like education, which have improved their status. Gender equality among men and women should be embraced because women have similar potential as the masculine gender.
Since time immemorial, women have been considered by their male counterparts as weak individuals. This has caused them to be entrusted with home-based duties of bearing children and taking care of their husbands. Women are considered to be weak individuals who cannot take care of themselves (Jacobs, Kathleen, and Jerry 13). This makes men believe that it is their obligation to take care of women. As a result, they forbid women from taking part in many areas and activities, which can allow them an opportunity to better lives. This makes women remain at home to offer home-based activities as men work to provide for their families. Additionally, most women are at peace with this kind of life and this has been evidenced by their dedication in taking care of their families.
Another factor that has contributed to gender inequality is the biological differences existing between males and females. Men claim that women are unable to take part in some fields like engineering because of their biological status. For instance, women cannot perform hard tasks that require the use of force. This claim is true and challenges human claims raised by different individuals to view these two unequal individuals as equals. This is because despite the education levels, which have improved the status of the feminine gender, women are weak and their biological morphology does not allow them to take part in hard tasks. Weakness in women has also been facilitated by their upbringing. This is because the female child is given more care compared to a boy child. Additionally, boy children are exposed to hard tasks at a tender age while girls are prepared for home-based roles (Lorber 6).
Although women are considered weak than men because of their physical differences, women have many capabilities, which qualify them to be equal to men. The intellectual capacity of women is higher compared to males’ brains. Most men believe that women are poor in terms of intelligence compared to them. Studies, however, have confirmed that women's intelligence varies slightly from that of men. The stereotypes that males hold that women are capable of executing home-related activities and duties because they require less application of the human brain have no basis. These stereotypes have made men hold big and prominent positions because their performance is considered high compared to that of women. This is a clear indication that men are no better than women in terms of intellectual ability (Glick and Susan 109).
Women have much potential in them. This has been evidenced by the different positions they are holding, which were considered male roles. Despite the claims that women cannot take part in major roles like politics and higher government positions, the few who have managed to reach for these posts have exemplified perfect works. In this decade, however, women have been highly represented themselves in different positions, and their performance is better compared to the males. This proves that women are equal to men and the form of discrimination existing between the two genders should be eliminated. Additionally, the empowerment of women through education has opened up many opportunities for women, who are working hard to change the condition of society in the current generation (Ridgeway 219).
According to Robeyns (72), women are taking part in jobs, which were set aside for men. For instance, women are working in tedious and risky jobs like engineering and aviation. This clearly refutes the argument that women are weak. This is because weak individuals cannot perform even the simplest activities to earn a living for themselves. However, women are able to take care of their own families without the help of men. There is an increased number of women who are single parents, but they are making it in providing for their children and meeting their responsibilities as parents. This, therefore, means that women have the power to work and meet their parental responsibilities and duties as men do. In addition, women have played a significant role in changing the perception of the world about discriminating against them through competition. Their hard work and efficiency have earned them trust in all sectors of employment.
In conclusion, gender inequality has greatly affected the feminine gender. Women are highly discriminated against by all individuals in society because they are considered inferior and incapable of doing anything to help them. Research, however, has proved that women have the potential and opportunity to perform any duties and activities preserved for males. Additionally, women have been empowered to compete with their male counterparts in all sectors of employment. They have proved that they are capable of taking up family responsibilities like child raising without the help of men. Although equality between the two individuals has not yet been eliminated, women's roles have been evident. Women and men should not be discriminated against and need to be treated as equals.
