Evaluation Argument: Shopping for puppies Every person wants to own a puppy as a pet today. The decisions we make on theplace to adopt a puppy depends on the availability as many stores have now stocked a variety of puppies from different bleeders. It is the intention of different bleeders to convince the public to adopt their own puppies either online, in the stores or by home delivery. A good puppy provider should attract the attention of the customers by making their puppies healthy, clean and showing a sense of humanity in the conditions they are kept in. I chose three types of puppy providers; domestic bleeders, pet-finder rescues and commercial puppy mills. The domestic puppy bleeders satisfied the criteria by best providing their puppies with high quality feeds and they are lively, clean environments as there is no order coming from their kennels, the condition is also humane because the puppies are allowed time to stay outside, interact with each other and they bleeder too. Most domestic puppy bleeders do it part time as a hobby while there are others who prefer to bleed the puppies full time. The puppies bled per person are not very many and they depend on the space capacity of the bleeder. It is rare for home bleeders to have available puppies for sale all year round since they do not bleed many at a time. Those who do it as a hobby interact with the puppies and they form part of their lives until they are too many to be continued and some are sold. The home bleeders provides healthy, clean, lively, friendly and cared for puppies. Petfinder.com is a pet adoption website which helps prospective pet owners connects with pets form their shelters which are adoptable according to buyer’s tastes. Pets are held in rescue centres waiting adoption. The website has connected many pet buyers with their pets for over a decade now and has since led to more than 25 million adoptions since. Puppies which are held in this rescue centres as pets are rescued from different neighborhood s and provided with care and shelter up to when a prospective owner will adopt such a puppy. Petfinder.com does not bleed pets but rather help the homeless puppies get a family to adopt it. Puppy mills are commercial bleeders of puppies. Well, there is no actual legal definition of a puppy mill but according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a puppy mill is a, “large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where profit is given priority over the well-being of the dogs.” ASPCA holds that, in the United States alone there are over 10,000 puppy mills, a number that has doubled since 1990. In these, there are approximately 1 million puppies produced each year. About half of these are sold in pet stores, while the rest are sold directly to the public over the Internet and through auctions. Puppy mills provide many puppies regardless of the space they have which leads to overcrowding. Between the three puppy sellers, I precisely prefer the puppies bled at home in standard environment where the puppies are able to go out of their kennels, play with the children and interact with other puppies for a healthy development. The puppies are also provided with clean environments in their kennels and are allowed into the house of the bleeder. Therefore, the buyer is convinced to trust the bleeder for high quality and friendly puppies compared to the other two. Pet finder website helps rescued puppies get a clean and friendly home as they use the already available pets in the streets and the neglected puppies in the neighborhood. The problem with the pet finder is that they may not have the healthy history of the pet such as medical care required by the puppy and other requirements which may take time before their expertise figure it out. The buyer is not sure of many things about the pet he is buying. It is also argued that may puppies in pet finder have their origin in puppy mills where the puppies have no healthy background and a buyer may not ascertain the health complication likely to be associated with such puppies. The puppy mills are totally off in the providence of healthy, clean and humanitarian environments for their puppies. Conditions in puppy mills are outrageously poor, the requirements of the United States Department of Agriculture regulations is that the cage must only be six inches taller and approximately six inches longer than the dog. This implies that a dog about the size of a beagle can be housed in a cage the size of a dishwasher for her entire life. The puppies are housed in these small, cramped quarters; it is not uncommon for cages to be stacked in columns with several dogs in one cage where they will freeze in the winter and overheat in the summer, with extremely poor ventilation. Puppies born in the mills do not receive adequate veterinarian attention, and are born into a life of poor health, genetic, and behavioral issues. According to the ASPCA, mill puppies will suffer from an abundance of health issues such internal parasites, severe respiratory disorders, dental disease, and reproductive disorders; frequent injuries, such as broken bones, infected bite wounds, and even missing limbs and receive no grooming resulting to severe matting, skin lesions and mange. Over breeding and inbreeding are very common in puppy mills which make their offspring suffer from genetic disorder. The high numbers compete for feeds which are not of very high quality. Domestic puppy bleeders meet all the criteria for providing the most preferred puppies but in reality, it may not be practical for all puppies to be adopted from home bleeders. This is because most of them are part time bleeders and they do not bleed many puppies enough to satisfy the demand in the market. Therefore, it adds to the perception of insufficiency. On the other hand, the puppy mills have enough pets to distribute to many shopping mall stores and others in online shopping. They are made accessible everywhere and the buyers are able to adopt puppies at their own convenience appealing to its adequacy and convenience. Despite being the weakest, puppy mills are able to exploit the market with their massive outreach strategies. Work cited American Kennel Club, Thinking of Buying a Puppy?
