The environmental impacts of constructing a wind farm on Pentland Hills will be the first aspect to be analyzed. The second aspect will be to decide upon an economic method to evaluate the cost of the various impacts. There are a variety of CBA methods that can be used to procure the monetary value of environmental and social costs. The method that has been decided on and implemented into this study is the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM).A central concept of ecology is that each and every living organism has a continuous relationship with every other living and the nonliving element that makes up the entirety of its environment.

With the development of the wind farm will come ravaging of the green land, which can lead to a disruption in the relationship between the existing land and the many plants. The sources of these impacts include the access road for the wind turbines, which would have to be built on the fields, a deep infrastructure for the wind turbine, and the installation of underground high voltage power lines. After consulting an ecologist to properly determine the ecological impacts, the site where the wind farm is to be built has shown to have no significant nature conservation with grass being the most abundant vegetation (5).

Other fun uses and flower plants in the area were proven to have no ecological importance. However, it would still be feasible for the company itself to run its own survey over the land to be used to determine if there really will be no negative impact in this regard. The greatest benefit of using Capelaw Hill as the site for the wind farm is that it is located close to the main road, which means that there would need to be very little expansion. No roads will need to be dug through any major areas of Pentland Hills.
