Process into Practice: My Working Progress I have attained considerable progress so far as evident from my work.First, in terms concept whereby my works ideas come from my own childhood personal memory, secret, concealed. These uncanny ideas were developed through the drawing objects and drawing process. Apart from the concept, another element is a process, which involves space and composition. For space and composition, I used the floor and suspending three – dimensions from the ceiling. For me, the difference between space on the floor and the wall is different sympathies. For my objects on the floor, the viewer is just able to skirt around it, for my suspending object from the ceiling and the wall plays with the visual of weight, drop and breakable. For example, during the process of my experiments with the various mediums and finding a way to represent, I made two different sorts of object, in one object I made amalgamates space around it, following works (intimately object, a chair and the dead body). This type of composition identifies with the quote, “Three dimensional works by minimalist artists used wide range both the surrounding space and the viewer.” Hence, I desire to establish the relationship between the sculptures processes and materials used and the idea of making uncanny objects. Nevertheless, in some of my works I did not incorporate space since, “You cannot understand the place without being capable of understanding form and to understand form you must be capable of understand space.” These include works such as Au nature, and untitled water object. In terms of material, I used particular materials such as an everyday object, cement, water, and the plastic bag, latex, fruit and here they act as properties in determining the form of my objects. This is a new exploration just like, “In the twenty century arts began to explore new recourse in a quest to discover what sculpture could be and what it could be made for.” As mentioned above; cement is one of the materials I have used in my work. Cement is a dead, waterproof material often used for outdoor sculpture, building and big scale; it can directly onto a supporting structure, pattern and object. First, I mixed plaster powder with water, which is fast sited, I practiced as a construction material of the making mould. Then, I used water, which is as a significant influential material in my recent works. It is an element of nature that brings specific aesthetic qualities. I also used fruit, which is an organic material and rot material. In terms of technique and material, the work does not result as a lifeless object. Artist own body, for instance, Ana Mendita used her body together with an element material such as water. Through subsequent artist have used everyday materials for a different reason every day, ‘real life ‘objects have a history, whether personal, political or social, which can be appropriated to imbue an artwork with a specific meaning, for example, place it in a creation context or evoke particularly associations. The following slides exhibit the use of materials, and other elements discussed above: Slide 1: Dead body This milk bottle as process of the work I re-made it with glue to re-configurations again. The reason I did not rebuild whole form due to depict metaphor for a dead body. The achievement point of the works is hitting a physical presence that causes a physical impression on the spectator. The drawing and sculpture are intended to them to become one object, the importance of an idea making the combination between 2-D and 3-D. the concept behind all these is, “the dead do not see or hear or thinks, not even one part of us survives the death of the body.” Slide 2: Simple Fractions VIII Artist: Amikam Toren This involves the rebuild of a broken glass alongside the bottle, and a framed pen drawing, hanged on the wall to represent as a map. It looks like an abstract drawing. This drawing was transformed from these lines appearing on the bottle. He made object and drawing next to each other. His inspiration come from destroyed ready-made objects, resurrected by artist himself who notes, “Meticulously transforms objects into ideas only to let the object determine the outcome.” Slide 3: Intimately object This oeuvre is a metaphor for both the human organic structure and the dead body. The process and technique of making this object involved suspending pair tights from the ceiling, and then I employed a real melon with casting melon separately. Due to using organic fruit this work does not give us the reaction of a lifeless object, but the rotting fruit, which after all depicts my concept. I got this inspiration from these artists Ernesto Neto, Urs Fischer, Sarah Lucas, and Louise bourgeoisie. In summary, through these works I established the combination between plaster as traditional material and live material. Also, I achieved combining space around the object. Other slides of interest throughout this process include: Slide 4: Au nature (cement plastic gag installation) I am concerned with the material for what they are, and showing what can be served with very basic materials. The concept of this oeuvre is an installation, which depicts a fragment of body suspending on the wall. Moreover, these bags could be a series of my friends and portrays physical impact. I attempted to feel gravity. The idea comes from my childhood memory. When I was a youngster, my city was ruined and given out by the Iraqi government. I remembered around the ruined body in the city, people still serving by insanity. Those moments influenced the theme of this work. As material and technique I got the inspiration from following artists: Justin Matherly, Man Ray and Francesca Lehmann. In addition, in this work I attempted to think about repetition and limitation by using different methods and technique to represent. So the implication of my hands is clearly demonstrated. As to trying in different ways to express my feelings, I have used latex to seem like a skin or at least was when it is pulled upwards. Slide 5: Nude suspending from bars (1973) by Man Ray This picture depicts a nude human hanging on the corroded metal bars, ‘the shadow of on their body’. I have chosen this work as a reference because I have been looking at suspending 3-D sculpture showing the idea of suspending body. Notably, ‘‘Man Ray was an artist, but this picture was obviously for fun. Man Ray did everything for fun and nothing for fun. This photo would have held the same level of seriousness of execution as any of his more famous works.’’ Slide 6: 12 Nails by Martin creed He has taken in a diminuendo line with 12 varying size nails stuck into the rampart. Obviously the study is simple and feels like it is ready to suspend a thing on it. He used basic material, which leaves the viewer wondering why metal nail, what mode be thought as an approximation. It has been done perusal, so every mark has a purpose, to make a diminuendo line. This permits the eye to read the diminuendo line and the sense of perspective. So he accomplished to bring ordinary material and basic structure through the line. As evident, “Martin creed wanted to sidestep the production of artwork that was positioned within a narrative or theoretical framework by using a minimal amount of materials and by conceptually turning the work of art in on itself.” Slide 7: water plastic bay (untitled) The format of this work shows some small reputations of soft sculpture. Each bag contains repetition a fragment of the human body. The bags look similar and different, individual likes humans. Also, %70 of the human body is water. I became inspired, from every bit of nature, such as water, everyday materials and the nature of the human body. For that reason, I tried to convey the nature of water, movement and sound. Besides that, I also tried to achieve feel of drop and repetition. This work in my view works because plastic bag and water did not shift to other material. The water bags are impermanent due to the delicacy. However, I did not accept any solution when plastic bags would go because of my thought about water break. In fact, I used the clear plastic bag in order to pick up what is within them. The works I got the inspiration from are Martin Creed’s 12 nails, Jud Nelson’s, trash bag, and Michael Craig- Martin’s on the shelf, 1970. Slide 8: “Hefty 2-ply “Jud Nelson 1981-82 He got the trash bag cut up out of Carrara marble in late ’70, which is a good material to study in terms of both property and conceptual. It is really similar to a rubbish bag; he finished the details of the bag marble, which gets the viewer to feel that it is a real trash bag and at the same time express the artist’s physical energy. Therefore, artist attempted to make an ordinary object from a “historically significant material to make a very close resemblance to a bag of trash.” Slide 9: Untitled, 2013 This work demonstrated 7 editions of cement of cement bag. Each bag in this series is different and displayed in many angles. In terms of material, she used cement, which is not expensive. Although it is intended as an abstract and figurative, she made this installation by constructing 7 editions of cast cement bag. These pieces made combination, similarity and difference, movement at once. She attempted to continue more editions of cement bag as physical form, “seeds in a form that the work often begins like life itself.” I have chosen this work; it is successful in terms of using cement display her intentions of exploring the possibilities of sculpture, by adding and fixing additional physical form external influences achieved in her aim. Slide 10: Video The concept is what happens when the water break, what is look likes, does it painful, does it has a sound or smell? The following quote provides a good explanation for this, “When waters do break, some women hear a pop sound, some dont. Some have a gush and others have a trickle - its different for everyone. Waters often break just before the second stage (the pushing stage) of labour, when you are nearly fully diluted, due to the pressure of your baby coming down.” The reason for making this video is that I was looking for another style to express what is taking place behind the process of this initiation. The viewer will just see a still object, but I sought to achieve some piece of auditory sensation and motion. Sculpture it could be more than cut up casting object. It could be a sound, a performance, and it could be the artists body involved or it could become a component of the object. I am also trying to communicate something human or bodily with the work. The surface is representational of marble fabric. These look like carved from marble remember Italian Renaissance marble sculpture, for instance, Bernini.
