The effects of El Nino are not only felt in countries bordering the Pacific, rather but they are also felt all around the world. However, the main effects of this phenomenon are felt in the Americas. These effects result in losses worth millions of dollars and also claim human casualties. However, the effects of the El Nino have been greatly diminished as a result of early warning systems and the design of buildings and structures that can withstand the effects of heavy floods. Still, more needs to be done to curtail El Nino’s effects, particularly those occurring due to floods. Governments in affected areas need to sensitize persons living on coastlines on the dangers of El Nino besides helping in evacuation efforts if the need arises.
