9/11 Conspiracy Theory There has been a rise in terrorism all across the globe and many major events and occurrences have been attributed to Muslim extremist organizations. It is believed that these organizations work towards destabilizing and infiltrating the United States of America. The United States has always been considered to be a target of extremists. One event that totally changed the political policies of the United States and put the country in an emergency was the happening that took place on the 9th of September 2001. It is an event which will be marked in the history of the United States and will never be forgotten. It was a day when innocent lives were lost and too much blood was shed. It was a day which would always carry the dark memories of the happenings that took place. United States is a country which was believed to be the most secure place for beings and many people moved to the country owing to the safety and protection that is provided to its citizens. But the occurrences of 9/11 greatly altered that image and it was seen that even a super power of the world could not save the hundreds of lives that were lost on that day. Immediately following the attack, the blame was placed on the terrorist organization of Al-Qaeda and there were reports that Osama bin Laden had claimed responsibility for the act. It might have been the easiest option available for the government and it was a convincing option owing to the background and operations of Al- Qaeda throughout the world. But an in-depth analysis of the attacks provides with many insights regarding the happenings of the day. A closer picture of the 9/11 attacks serves to explain the true conspiracy that lies behind the attacks of that day and it was revealed that there was involvement of the government as well as the intelligence agencies of the country in the happenings of the day. The World Trade Center was considered to be an important structure in the United States. Pentagon is another symbol of security of the country which is the headquarters of the Defense Forces of the United States. These two important landmarks of the country were the targets of the attacks of September 11 2001. Four airplanes from three different airports were used for the attacks. These included the American Airlines (AA) Flight 11 and United Airlines (UA) Flight 175 which both departed from the Logan International Airport located in Boston. These flights were intended to head towards Los Angeles. The normal screening and security measures were taken to check the people who boarded these planes. Another flight of the United Airlines was boarded from the Newark Airport in New Jersey which was intended to land at San Francisco. The fourth airplane belonged to the American Airlines and it was boarded from Dulles Airport. The most interesting and suspicious act took place while the boarding procedure for this flight was taking place. Khalid al Mihdar, Nawaf al Hazmi and Majed Moqed were three passengers who boarded on this flight. They did not board in an easy manner as the alarms of the detectors became functional when they passed through them. They were put to further checks but later they were allowed to board the plane. The planes headed for different targets. Two of the airplanes hit the world trade center creating the most chaotic situation and leading to the loss of many lives of the people who were in the building and the planes. One of the planes missed the actual target whereas the fourth one hit Pentagon (Gibbs 2001, Langley 2009). All the innocent passengers in the planes also lost their lives. The happenings of the airport indicate the first flaw on the side of the government agencies and bodies. The security on three different airports of the United States was breached by the terrorists and some of them even managed to pass through despite of suspicions. It raises a question that how could such an event occur without inside involvement. The attacks shook the United States of America and the city of New York and Washington were in a chaos. People came out on the streets and many people were stuck in New York owing to the disturbance in the city. Prayers started throughout the country and the survivors were moved to the hospitals. Volunteers started moving towards the hospitals and many Americans were willing to put in all their efforts to assist their nation. It was a time when unity and strength were the only measures that could serve to help the nation as the security agencies and the government had failed to protect the lives of their people. In this period, it was essential for the President to support his nation and make them aware that the government was utilizing all its efforts to assist the country. But this did not happen. The President did not address the nation the entire day. It was a very important question by the citizens of United States as to why were they not being assured by their President regarding what had happened to their country. When the criticism on the matter worsened a statement was issued that this step was taken owing to security reasons (Gibbs 2001). But after analysis of the issue, different details regarding this matter were presented. It was analyzed the Bush administration along with all the intelligence agencies were already informed regarding the fact that there were plots underway for undermining the security of the country and that important buildings were at risk of being attacked. Furthermore, it was also seen that the plan regarding the taking over of planes was also suspected. The question hence arose that despite of such serious threats, there was no justification for an action not being taken. Sources claimed that when in the morning of the attack, President Bush was on a visit to a school where he was scheduled to be in the second grade classroom. It was also highlighted that he was informed immediately of the disaster that had hit the country but he did not provide for a strong response that would have been expected from the President in such a crucial time. He completed his visit and no one knew regarding his location for the entire day. It was a after a day of the event that he presented a speech to the nation. His indifference on the issue was a major concern and it was believed that it was an expected event for him (Moore 2004). The event of 9/11 could not be shown ignorance publicly and hence investigations were carried out into the attacks. The government formed a commission which presented the findings for the attacks. The commission comprised of members from both the parties so that it could be a widely accepted report. The commission highlighted the names of Mohamed Atta and Abdul Aziz al Omari as major suspects involved in the hijacking of one of the airplanes. The report explained that American Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were the two planes that hit the world trade center. It presented the efforts that were carried out by the officials as well as volunteers to assist the victims. The commission clearly put the entire blame on Osama bin Laden for the issue. One important aspect that was upheld in the report was that this attack was planned a very long time before it actually occurred and despite of threats, the authorities had missed the graveness of the issue. It explained the lack of the administration to enhance the security of the country in the wake of the threats and also highlighted the lack of efforts by the Defense authorities as well as the FBI (Commission Report; BBC News 2004). The report of the investigation also highlighted major flaws of security which had been tackled properly. This included the ignorance of the notorious activities of Midhar and Alhamzi who were two suspected hijackers. Zacarias Moussaoui was also an extremist and though he was arrested before the attacks, his indications towards activities associated with flight training were not considered to be a major threat. The commission showed the lack of strong security check points which were essential for the protection of the country. Furthermore, the homeland defense security was also weak and not up to the mark which allowed such a breach of the security to happen and resulted in the most untoward incident in the history of United States (Commission Report; BBC News 2004). The structures that were affected on 11 September included the World trade towers, tower seven as well as Pentagon. With increased time, more investigations were carried out and the video of the falling of the twin towers showed alarming occurrences. The video clearly revealed the fact that the planes hit the towers on the top most floors but there was a demolition occurring from the base as well which suggested the implantation of prior bombs in the base of the towers. Another important finding was that an airplane did not hit the Pentagon base but it was rather a missile that hit the base. It was indicated that the airplane was destroyed by an attack by the armed forces of the United States. This was upheld by the evidence that was put forward after the photographs as well as witness accounts from Pentagon were received. The impact on the wall of Pentagon which was hit by the missile was not equal to the dimensions of the plane. The parts of the plane were not seen in the vicinity of the crash. This was also highlighted by the firsthand account of April Gallop who was present at Pentagon at that time. She said that after the impact there were no remains of the plane at the site nor were there any dead bodies of the people. She also said that there was no heat emerging from the impact. Gallop also presented another important finding that during her time of recovery in the hospital, there were people who visited her in the hospital and tried to convince her that the impact was that of an airplane (Arnold 2008; Feuer 2006; Grossman 2006; Whitehouse). There was another astonishing finding that the tower 7 which was adjacent to the twin towers also collapsed though there was no impact of planes of the building. This was considered to be a planned job as the examination of the way of fall highlighted the fact that such a strong building could not have come down only due to fires. It was also seen that this building was not presented in the investigative reports of the incident of 9/11. Furthermore, the steel from the building was not analyzed and it was transported for recycling. The collapse of tower seven was an important happening and such ignorance in the analysis of the pieces of evidence received from the building revealed the fact that important evidences might have been tried to be removed and hidden from being revealed to the public (Rudin 2008). The motives behind this incident were considered to be very strong and it was analyzed that this step was essential for the government to bring forward certain policies that could not otherwise be implemented. This happening could have assisted in the putting forward of the plans that were being stooped. The inside story of the event received a great response from many people in the United States. It was supported by important figures in the media who could not ignore the true happenings which were proved by strong evidences. According to a survey report of Scripps-Howard, 36 percent of the citizens of the United States believe in the justifications provided by the conspiracy theory and consider the involvement of government in the attacks. Another survey repot of the Zogby International revealed the fact 42 percent of the residents of America considered infiltration of the true occurrences of the happenings of the 9/11 attack (Feuer 2006; Grossman 2006; Arnold 2008). Thus the 9/11 was a great conspiracy hatched by the Bush administration in association with the intelligence agencies of the country. They considered their plans to be above the loss of the innocent lives that were lost due to the attacks. It created an emergency situation in the country. The impact of the attacks is not forgotten till this day and the day will always be remembered in the history of the world.
