The kindergarten school follows a certain kind of methodology in order to provide the children with knowledge and guidance in the crucial years of their upbringing. Kindergarten is all about learningful play and playful learning. It also focuses upon the academic socialization. In order to be a good teacher, the knowledge should constantly be enriched via interactions and conversations with the individuals and groups. Therefore, teachers play a vital role in the overall development of the kid right from the day the child enters the school.
Their activities need to be gauged and thus the teaching methodology should be formatted accordingly (Graue, n.d.). The impressive learning that I have incurred is related to the language and literacy in kindergarten. Language and literacy development are the two crucial components that are provided more importance. Teachers can promote language and literacy in children by engaging their social, emotional, physical and cognitive selves at an early age. The children needs to be physically healthy and must be provided with the environment that will support the development of the emotional well-being and social competence.
The literacy learning often begins at quite an early age. However, it persists throughout life. The process of learning to read and write is a continuous method. Oral language is the foundation for the development of the literacy. A typical kindergarten language and literacy standards are developed by concentrating on certain factors such as listening, speaking, reading and writing (Strickland, n.d.). The articles based on the views of Reggio Emilia, have taught me that the child’s image is also quite crucial in this context.
According to the articles studied, children have curiosity, preparedness and potential to get engaged in social interaction, establish relationship and negotiate with everything that the environment brings to them. Therefore, the teachers and the curriculum should be well aware of the child’s image in order to construct their curriculum and environment based on the children’s requirements to respond correctly. The teacher plays an insurmountable role in the early childhood. It came to my knowledge that in order to understand the role, it is important to analyze and gain insights on certain important dimensions such as promotion of the children’s learning in cognitive, affective, social and physical domains, preparing the environment and seeking of the professional growth.
It came to my notice that these same aspects are found in the work of teachers in Reggio Emilia. However, there are two more aspects that were found to be essential such as engagement in political activity and conducting the systematic research on daily classrooms for the development as a whole. I learned that the educators in Reggio Emilia perceive young children to be active, powerful and competent protagonist of their own growth. I realized that the process of teaching at Reggio Emilia has been completely different than that of others.
The teachers of Reggio Emilia observe each and every move of the children on a regular basis in order to keep track of the development of the child. Furthermore, with the assistance of the article I gained an in depth understanding of the various principles mentioned in Reggio Emilia Approach and their roles respectively. It is worth mentioning that the image of the child, the three subjects of education:
