Admission Essay As Georgetown is a diverse community, the Admissions Committee would like to know more about you in your own words. Please submit a brief essay, either personal or creative, which you feel best describes you. If transferring from a four-year institution, please include your reasons for transferring. People are destined to accomplish defined purposes in life. In contemporary societies where social structure varies widely and evident gap between the affluent and the impoverished exist, it is fortunate for just a few segment to pursue higher education. More so, for some who could travel to other international countries to further their academic pursuits, they are the cream of the crop – destined to succeed. I belong to these fortunate students who are provided with the chance to pursue higher education in the United States. As I come from Bahrain, I have been trained to strive hard academically and have been rewarded with outstanding awards. The academic orientation in the school which I attended has been focused on a holistic development of students where activities did not only focus on improving academic skills, but also in honing other aspects like creative talents, physical fitness, and extra-curricular endeavors which lead to my overall personality development. I am a dedicated student who loves to learn new skills and interact with people. Friends and peers have acknowledge me to be gregarious, easy to get along with, highly disciplined with exemplary time management skills. I love to travel and experience new things and learn about different cultures. I value the ability to maintain smooth interpersonal relationships and establishing good camaraderie. Although it is fairly challenging to summarize everything that needs to be known about me in this limited space, I could assure the Admissions Committee that my academic discipline and traits, I am perfectly fit to pursue a career in business. Likewise, I have attended the University of San Diego (USD) for my freshman year of college. I found the instructional approach fairly limited in terms of thrusts being placed more on the advancement of knowledge and does not aptly consider the development of other facets. In addition, the student population is not culturally diverse which made me feel isolated and out of place. I transferred to George Mason with fervent hope that the educational approach and institution would accord the opportunity for me to achieve my personal and professional goals; and to grow into a well-rounded person who is able to accomplish exceptional things. 2. Describe the factors that have influenced your interest in studying business. In the increasingly competitive world of business, I affirmed that to be able to effectively showcase one’s knowledge and skills, there is a need to pursue higher education in the specialized endeavor. I have been immensely interested in looking into the unprecedented growth of various business enterprises; especially those with remarkable success stories. I plan to venture in a business of my own in the near future and be instrumental in transforming the lives of people who get to interact with my proposed products and services; much like the revolutionary growth of Apple and the phenomenal success of Facebook. Through experiences of proprietors and entrepreneurs, I am inspired to emulate their career paths. The only way to start trekking that path is to pursue a career in business. With more organizations opting for globalization, the world of business becomes more challenging and dynamic. Students get to be immersed in theoretical frameworks that extend beyond the domestic realm and expand perspectives on a more global sphere. Thus, to be able to design strategies that cater to a more multidimensional orientation, students of business should be equipped with the crucial concepts on international business and globalization; in conjunction with traditional business models and tools. I also acknowledge that diversity in culture in both the academe and in organizational settings make integration of cultural awareness in business courses relevant. Thus, being innately interested in these facets have contributed to my decision to pursue a course in business. I am convinced that being enrolled in a business course would enable me to gain the knowledge in managing and leading human resources; as well as operating systems and processes in an organization. Likewise, I would be provided with modules that emphasize ethics, professionalism and discipline, as well as the need to be socially responsible in an increasingly global realm. 3. Please tell us what excites you about being a member of the GW community. I believe that would be the perfect academic institution which would fulfill this professional dream. It has been my earnest dream to become a student as I strongly believe that I will be accorded with appropriate opportunities to take part in various activities and learn from the most distinguished and highly qualified members of the faculty. In addition, the student population is recognized and acknowledged to be more culturally and demographically diverse. This factor would enable me to blend and fit in the learning environment as an active participant who is more than willing to share personal and academic experiences which would be mutually beneficial to students and faculty members alike. I look forward to joining various school endeavors and organizations, much like my orientation in my previous academic environment which encourages holistic growth through harnessing academic, creative, and sports-oriented skills. I am confident that offers a more multi-dimensional approach to learning through the active application of interactive learning methods, resources and approaches. Likewise, I also am excited about capturing and taking part of varied academic support systems offered by the institution. I have acknowledged that learning is always a two-way process; students learn from formal instructions and from the experiences accorded within the learning environment; more importantly, students share their personal and educational experiences in the past which likewise enrich the lives of others who they get to interact with. Being a high achiever, I look for various avenues that offer personal and professional growth. Likewise, I also envision applying what I learn from the institution, in terms of capturing opportunities in the environment, handling and managing risks, as well as making use of my core competence to inspire and influence others to fulfill their own dreams. Being a member of this academic community would encourage and empower me to contribute in the transformation of lives for the better. Aside from envisioning myself to be an active and collaborative member of the academic community, I am also immensely excited, not only on learning advanced theories and concepts; but more so, in seeing myself being able to innovatively apply what I would be learning in future business organizations where I would be serving. I have already recognized that global organizations have increasingly focused on giving importance and priorities in conducting their business according to ethical standards, encouraging cultural diversity, and being committed to corporate social responsibility; aside from the traditional thrust of focusing on profitability and financial stability and growth. I am therefore adamant to become part of this interactive learning community where my personal and professional goals of becoming, not only a good businessman; but being an inspirational and influential contributor to the business world, would soon be fulfilled.
