Extract of sample "The Chapman Community"

1. Please explain your interest in your selected academic program(s). My interest in finance developed ever since I was a young child. As both of myparents worked in the business sector, I guess it was naturally that I gravitated toward this academic program. However, just because I was nurtured toward a career in finance does not mean that it was necessarily the path that I had to take. Of all the major academic programs, finance is the most interesting because it has the greatest effect on the world around us.

A couple of key financial decisions made today have the ability to impact the economy for years to come. The time where I really firmed up my plans to major in finance was during the beginnings of the economic recession back in 2008. I found it fascinating that the whole economy seemed to be blown down like a stack of cards yet no one did anything to prevent it before the bubble burst. Pursuing a degree in finance should hopefully give me the tools to be able to foresee such a catastrophe in the years to come.

Another reason why I have selected finance is because it often acts as foundation knowledge for professionals of many fields. 2. There are thousands of universities and colleges. Please share with us why you are choosing to apply to Chapman. One of the main factors that led me to apply to Chapman is the fact that there is a special student-professor dynamic that is not really seen elsewhere. I believe that college is a very particular time in someone’s life when they need as much guidance as possible.

Being able to work alongside professors from the very beginning will allow me to explore and gain priceless insights into the financial world from some of the most knowledgeable people available. Apart from the academic aspect, I also admire Chapman for the way that has a community-minded approach to all faculty and students. Being part of a tight-knit group will only further spur me on to greater academic success and also help me to develop lifelong friendships that may be beneficial later on during my career.

Finally, I like the fact that Chapman has a strong spiritual emphasis for its students as well. While other universities and colleges may just focus on students from an academic point of view, I like that Chapman strives to create and mold young men and women who learn to be balanced and well-rounded in all areas of their lives. 3. Drawing from your past experiences and considering your future goals, how do you expect to contribute to the Chapman community? I am someone who believes that I should give just as much as I can take, and this is also true when it comes to my education.

I will appreciate the input that I receive from my professors and also my fellow students, but I also want to be able to help others that so desperately need it. Education is all about taking on new knowledge and then disseminating it to those who have yet to learn it. I expect to contribute to the Chapman community by trying to improve the educational experiences of other students as well as my own. One of my future goals is to work with a large multinational corporation. To do this I will need to be able to develop the skills required for communicating with diverse groups of people.

I plan to use my time at Chapman to practice and enhance these skills with others. Of course I do not expect to have everything my own way, and that is why I want to help others pursue their dreams. There is no need to get one up over another student since it is possible to create a win-win situation whereby help is reciprocal.
