Personal Statement Describe the world you come from – for example, your family, community or school – and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations. I came from a world where any part of life can be tough at any given time, but I kept on trying and making this world a bearable place. My family had a difficult life ever since they moved here from Vietnam. I was the only family member to be born in the United States, while my parents and my siblings were all born in Vietnam. My family had a hard life when they came to America, as they had to work extra hard to earn and save enough money. They wanted to make sure that I had a better life than they had growing up. Because of my parents’ sacrifice for me, I will make sure to have a better life, a better education, a better job, and a better future. There are a lot of career choices that I have when I graduate and go to my dream college. I want to be veterinarian, but I change my mind on that sometimes; perhaps a singer, but I think I have lost my singing voice by now; a pediatrician, but I have put that choice on hold; a lawyer, which I also put on hold; or a pharmacist, which is another career that I put on hold. There are so many possibilities for me, it is hard to make up my mind on just one career. My educational journey had always been a difficult one. There were a lot of complications when it came to middle school and high school. Getting good grades and achieving, while my biggest goals, were hard to reach for me. I always thought that life would be easy, but I quickly found that I was wrong. I never realized that life could be so difficult. However, I had no choice but to keep on trying and doing my best. I have to keep going, even if it causes me a lot of stress, or that more difficulties will keep on coming, but I’ll keep on trying. No matter what happens or what comes in my way, I will keep on trying. I have to keep going, I have to keep on improving; I have to earn a better future for my family, and myself. These are my ultimate goals. When I have a career and I finish and graduate from college, I want to be either a pediatrician or a pharmacist, as I want to help people and children, taking care of their health. I know there are a lot of people that become ill, especially the children, and that is why I want to become either a pharmacist or a pediatrician so I can do my best to help them to feel better. If I do not become a pediatrician or a pharmacist, then I will work in a business administration. The reason I want to work at a business administration is for the fact that it can be a bit easy for me, just in case that I will not make it to be a pharmacist or a pediatrician in the timeframe that I want. I want to work at the business so that I can earn money, not just for myself, but also for my family. It is the way I can “repay” my family for all of the hard work they did for me, so I will try my best for them. I will keep on trying my best. My family makes sure that I have a better life, rather than suffer through the same things of what they had gone through. I want to succeed, and help people, children, and my family as well. I promise that I will keep on trying, that I will never let them down, and that I will earn a better life, have a better education, and a better future for everyone, including myself. Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are. I had a lot of talents when I was growing up. I liked drawing, singing, and studying. However, I hardly ever use my drawing and singing talents in the present, since I was so concentrated on studying. I started to abandon singing, because I was so stressed out on studying for school, since school was the most important thing to me. I used to be the best singer in talent shows. Now, since school started to become very important, I had to give up singing. Even though I gave up on singing, I still like to listen to my favorite music; music will always be an important part of life. Drawing is the talent I never completely gave up. I draw whenever I feel like it or when I am having a break. Also, this talent comes in handy in my art class. Art makes me feel relaxed, which is why I like to draw. However, I want to work, whether I get a part time job or volunteer. There was the time, somewhere during my high school education, that I volunteered at the San Mateo Medical Center as an Office Assistant Volunteer of Human Resources Center. I worked there by filing, sorting, and copying papers. I volunteered there so that I can understand and see what it like is to work at a medical center or a hospital, since I want to become either a veterinarian or a pharmacist. By volunteering, I was also able to understand what it is like to work in a Business Administration situation, since Human Resources is part of the Business Administration. Now I understand that it can be hard, but not so hard when I was working as the Office Assistant Volunteer. But it’s a good thing that I volunteered there, so I can understand what it is to be a pediatrician, a pharmacist, or just to work in business. I always made sure I kept on track in school. That is why I always made sure to study. I wanted to make sure that I got good grades in all of my classes, in order to graduated and get accepted into my dream college. I want to improve, and I do not want to fail or be left behind. If I fail, who knows what happen. I might not graduate or go to college. It would feel like I am letting everyone down, including myself. I have to keep on trying my best. I must succeed. That is why I study as often as I possibly can. Even though I do get breaks and find time to relax, I always go back to studying. I guess that makes studying one of my talents, since it is something that I do well, and it is something that I am proud of. Those are my former and current talents. I love drawing, singing, and studying. I guess some of these talents I have makes me special. The greatest thing, though, is that I know that one of these talents can help me relax and improve my future. Read More
