Quote Quote “The Most Terrible Poverty is Loneliness and the Feeling of Being Unloved.” I strongly agree withthe above quote. The reason I agree it is because there are so many things a person is deprived when they are lonely. For example, a lonely person is not able to relate with others and establish lasting social relationships. It is also equated with poverty because an individual’s development in terms of personal, social and economic growth is dependent on relationships. These could be relationships with friends, family and colleagues just to name but a few.

Relationships enrich a person not just financially but also physically and emotionally. A lonely person is likely to develop problems such as stress that affect health. This already can be a sign of poverty especially when a person is unable to commit or rather engage in activities that lead to personal development because of poor health. Loneliness further deprives a person of emotional support. An emotionally isolated person is likely to engage in poor decision-making something that may affect their personal development (Shorthouse, 2014).

People make practical decisions when they consult with others. The feeling of being unloved, on the other hand, can make people isolate themselves because they feel worthless. Isolation causes a person to miss out on many opportunities that could otherwise have been used to eliminate poverty. A lonely heart does not also get the opportunity to borrow insightful ideas from other people’s opinions. Relating with people and participating in meaningful activities and conversations can enrich an individual’s mind.

Failure to participate in such could eliminate chances of accessing information that could have been used for development purposes.
