In dictionary meaning, ghost refers to the spirit or soul of a dead person. In the text, ghost refers to smoke from the burning cigarette left in the ashtray. This reminds the writer only of the past life and finds the odor disgusting.
The word ‘artique’ while referring to Sunta’s handwriting has a connotative meaning to show how lovely the words appear. The writer is using the word to compare them to beautiful blue decorations. Instead of the word, having normal dictionary meaning of a decoration, in the text it means handwriting.
Lean shows denotation use word. Use of this word instead of thin or slim refers to the nature of Sunta’s finger shows how attractive the body of Sunta looks. It also gives an idea of how the writer adores Sunta. The word ‘lean’ gives a denotative meaning of Sunta state of being healthy.
