Sheltering the Deep The of the article has used different dictions to sustain and capture the interest of the reader (Damrosch 34). Some of the diction used in the article includes assonance, alliteration, consonance, pun and cacophony (Allen 89). The report is organized in literature work. The author uses different writing styles and themes to draw the reader’s attention and make sure that the reader understands. The author chooses the example of animals in order to make the reader create imagery pictures and understand the story more clearly.
Pun is described as the use of a phrase or word with application of humour in order to empathise different meaning or different uses of the words that sound the same or are a like (James 4). In the article, the author uses pun in different paragraphs like, “underwater canyon, bottlenose whales". In this phrase, she uses “bottlenose whales” to make sure that the readers understand the meaning of the word whales. Another pun used is the “underwater communities”. Another example of a pun in the article is the illustration of "rich waters".
She is trying to explain about the birds that uses water to find food and applies pun for the reader to understand. Assonance is also applied in the report in different parts. In many sentences, the author repeats vowel “e” and “i” in different sentences. She has used narrowed and swallowed in the same sentences stating that after the lagoon narrowed then even become shallower. Alliteration is used where by she says, “race rock”.
