Therefore, our feelings, living conditions, and other important aspects that contribute to a happy life are sacrificed for the benefit of other people. As a result, this has led to unhappy life among people in a different spectrum.
In the past decade, many companies have expanded their markets to increase their overall revenues. This is because, with the increasing levels of globalization resulting from the liberalization of markets, efficient flow of information, and integration of economies, the level of competition has increased tremendously. This results from the entry of multinational companies which have a huge financial base to segment the market, position their products or services strategically in the market and attract customer loyalty towards their products or services. However, the intensified competition has increased the level of uncertainty among consumers. In the meantime, the customers cannot be able to predict the future prices of the commodities. Each company is trying to implement new strategies to increase its market share. Furthermore, they have kept their competitive strategies a secret to lower the chances of the competitors reacting towards their new move. Moreover, the companies keep on introducing new products in the market to diversify the source of revenues, an aspect that is aimed at reducing the risks and uncertainties associated with concentrating on a single product. Therefore, these aspects are making it hard for consumers to know what will happen in the future and whether it will affect their financial stability. Fore, the customers are forced to undergo some happiness to available money. This is making it hard for them to lead happy and satisfying lives.
Majority The majority of people are employed in the corporate sector. With the increasing levels of competition in the market, people are under intense pressure to perform their duties. The top managers are trying to ensure that the companies retain their competitive advantage in the market. As a result, they are putting a lot of pressure on the subordinates to ensure that they achieve the set objectives. In many cases, people are being overworked without any form of compensation. This explains the reason why the statistics indicate the number of people suffering from stress and stress-related diseases. In addition, the happiness of many people comes with having adequate time with close family members, friends, and relatives. However, the time has become limited. This is because people are trying to outdo each other to achieve optimum benefits. As a result, families are unable to interact and share good moments tog addition, the parents are unable to spend time with their children, an aspect that contributes to their unhappy life. It is also putting the children in compromising situations because when they are growing, they need the presence of their parents who are working hard in their workplace to beat the deadlines and targets. Therefore, even young people have not been spared by the increasing levels of competition.
Many of them are not assured of a happy life because of the uncertainty being created by competition in their places of work. In the meantime, the skills and experiences required in the workplace keep on changing. A new and energetic workforce keeps on entering the job market. In addition, new demands and trends keep on affecting various industries. For instance, the need to diversify the workforce is forcing many organizations to retrench some workers to employ subordinates that emanate from various cultural backgrounds, races, and religions. Therefore, no one is assured of a better future. In addition, it has become very hard for people to plan their consumption behaviour because the products and services being offered in the market can change with time.
Independence and self-reliance are some of the major contributors to a happy life. However, these have been taken away by intense competition. People are no longer independent to do whatever they want. On the contrary, their time is limited and managed by other people who want to maximize their efforts and time to make immense profits. People are more concerned about making money at the expense of other people’s happiness. For instance, last year, I was employed in a firm whereby the top manager was not concerned about what one was doing at what time. As a result, he could call someone even at night to receive orders or serve an important customer to the company. This is an indication that our happiness has been taken away by the spirit of competition.
Our culture has indeed come to believe that competition brings the best out in people. However, this is not true. Competition has brought unhealthy rivalry between people who are supposed to be friends or close relatives. In some cases, family ties have been broken through competition. Intense competition has forced companies not to participate in corporate social responsibility, an aspect that could have increased happiness in society. Furthermore, we are no longer in control of our energies and time. Instead, these two important contributors to happiness are controlled by our competitors. Initially, people-controlled time and energies and time depending on their needs. However, competition has made it very hard to achieve this aspect. On the contrary, we look at the plans of other people of ours. This has limited our happiness and ability to lead a happy life.
