Violated Human Dignity Human life style and environment has been changed a lot by time. In the past, there was always a shortage of essential things to maintain life; however, nowadays, many different kinds of technology has been developed and invented to increase convenience and quality of human life and to amuse the population. The majority of people in the world would predict that human life will change in a positive way, and people will get more intelligent. “Today technology has created a world of dazzling progress, growing disparities of wealth and poverty, and looming threats to the environment.

Technology” (Headrick, Daniel) However, the movie Idiocracy shows us a fiction of future in opposite direction that is going to decrease the quality of human life, less concerns toward intelligent and beautiful terms, and increase the number of social problems such as abandoning trash, poor security system, and hiring improper employees in extremely important field such as medical field and political field. As the movie Idiocracy sarcastically reveals the problems, we cannot deny that the problems listed above exist today.

The problems can be summarized in four issues such as changes in human life style, cultural decline, corruption of morality, and materialism. The serious story begins with changes in human life style. “Lifestyle theory is composed of three interlocking models: the structural model, the functional model, and the change model.” (Walters, Glenn, P.1) A long time ago, human struggling in poor status with starvation, disease, and war has been seek for something intelligent and progressive to enhance the quality of their life.

Nonetheless, people started to be interested in the opposite way, looking for satisfaction based on basic instinct when their life became wealthy and convenient. We can see the sarcastic warning from the director of Idiocracy that people could forget to develop intelligence progressive ideas; moreover, those areas would stop growing and would be even decline. To tell the truth, poetry, literature, and art were popular and developed a lot back in the day, and they really enjoyed and longed for them.

Nevertheless, this generation is tamed for entertaining program, show, and unhealthy program from the dumping mass media. For the reason, people just want amusement and time-killing more than beautiful and intelligent delight. The changes in the future humans in Idiocracy life style caused a cultural decline. The major interests of most people would be focused on money, sex, and silly subjects; furthermore, their emotion and artistic sense would get dry. In fact, masterpieces of movie, novel, and music which made the world surprised were made and wrote in the old times, and new ones cannot beat the earlier ones.

This demonstrates that the emotional and artistic side of human life has declined. There is a scene of movie theater in Idiocracy. People in the theater watch a movie showing just someone’s butt and farting for ninety minutes, but they keep laughing, and they seem to be happy with that. In the movie, the butt movie is the most popular movie; moreover, the most famous and popular show in the movie is “Aw My Balls,” just showing a man kicked or injured his testicles by accident. We might be laughing and pretty satisfying with a movie which is showing just an “ass” and its “farting” although we do not even know whose “ass” that is when our artistic sense hits the bottom.

Unfortunately, what the director of Idiocracy concerned about became a true story because the reality television show “Jackass” is popular now. Culture and art pursues beauty. Cultural decline would make the desire of human for beauty down, and extremely simplified fashion of people from the movie seem to be telling us the point because every people in Idiocracy wears pajama styled outfits. If there is no desire of beauty, human will lose the morality which determine right and wrong because they do not want to keep the nice attitude and beautiful mind anymore.

Corruption of morality causes another effect. As the movie reveals, prostitution is rampant in any times because that titillates human’s instinct which is unchangeable. Now, prostitution exposed more than before, and probably we will see totally exposed prostitution like there is nothing wrong. If that is true, that could happen because the morality had been corrupted seriously. Corruption of morality shows us sensationalism through all the language, writing, and publications as we could feel via mass media.

This generation considered to be more corrupted, sensational, and unhealthy when we compare to older generation beyond doubt. If we let this society goes in this direction, the ridiculous scenes we laughed at may come true. Corruption of morality drive human to forget about consideration toward other people and the environment; moreover, human will have a big lump of selfishness in the end. The selfishness becomes a basis of materialism make people struggle to fill up their pocket. Materialism takes human’s concern from essential parts to gaining materials.

In the movie, most of brains and budget is used for seeking solutions for hair loss and extended erection. What are those kinds of technology for? Of course those are just for making money, and that kind of example exists in this generation. We can take copying genes for an example. Copying genes has medically positive purpose such as transplanting organs from the other same body, but in most of cases, they aim the purpose to revenue. Producers like to produce bigger, faster, and more sources via copying advanced gene in farming and ranching field.

When producers focus too much on that, they may take wrong method which causes disharmony with the ecosystem in many times, and it may also cause mutant species, diseases, and death of animals and the consumers. For similar example from the movie, Brawndo, a drink similar to Gatorade, replaced water, the source of life because the company wanted more money. That caused death of all plants because the world started watering Brawndo on plants; moreover, people think watering plants with Brawndo is natural.

This way, human would ignore following basics and most important rules in this planet, and those basics and most important things to keep will disappear into oblivion, when we chase materials madly. Even though somebody destroys the ecosystem to make more money, the person would be considered as the winner if he or she earns lots of money as we could see the Brawndo which got fame and fortune from the movie. Movie Idiocracy is throwing a warning that we are going to lose morality and noble human character and drive the quality of human life to decline when we mostly follow instinct and what society pursues.

Productive pursuit, being realistic, and making money are important also, but feeding the mind with something intelligent and moralistic to not forget keeping the dignity of human is more important because it will draw human back in the guidance to repeat the development of the society and culture of human.Works CitedHeadrick, Daniel.
