Captain Kirk, who is the captain of Enterprise steps out on a mission of life and death to capture Khan and his crew. Khan and his crew are out to terrorize people using weapons of mass destruction. This is a journey that involves sacrifice, a test of friendships and loves in order to win the fight. In the story, the hero is Kirk while the villain is Khan. The hero and the villain play particular roles and display characters that reflect on contemporary issues in the American society. Captain Kirk’s action as the hero of the story epitomize the life a moral member of the society, dedicates his life to fight evil in the society.

This person normally would be a police officer fighting the criminals in the society. As a hero, Kirk’s journey occurs in stages where he is he is first discredited before regaining acceptance in the society. This discredit occurs when Kirk is demoted from his position because of failure to follow regulations. The disregard for regulations is another issue that reflects on contemporary American society. For instance, in some cases, police may find themselves between a hard place and a rock where they are unable to make decisions because of a particular dilemma.

In the end, they have to sacrifice regulations in order to save the life of an individual. This lands one into problems with his superiors, which marks the point of distrust in a hero’s journey. Nevertheless, the less, the selfless act that Kirk displays when he puts his work at risk in order to rescue his friend Spock also reflects on characters in the contemporary American society. In the contemporary society, nothing is free as everything has a price tag on it whether monetary price or not.

Thus, there is no good deed even if it is a matter of life and death. This is shown by the villain, Khan’s behavior, who proposes to save a girl in exchange for bombing. Moreover, as expected of every evil person in the society, what the villain asks for in exchange
