The mother child-relationship in Japan is characterized by much love and affecting and bonding between the mother and the child. The Japanese culture is set such that the mother and the children spend much time together, often teaching them of the good values in the society. When Japanese children achieve their dreams in life, the mothers also achieve because of the immense effort they put in shaping and molding their children into this successful future. Every child and mother in Japan is working very hard to ensure success both in school and life after school.

The jobs in the Japanese society are very competitive. The large numbers of people seeking educational excellence exert much pressure on the students. The fact that mothers groom their children to be good people in society also helps enforce good virtues in the Japanese society. Based on the authors descriptions of the role of the Japanese mothers, I believe that they are under much pressure. The demands laid upon the Japanese mother are very heavy to the extended that they are becoming a burden.

Everything is in the hands of these mothers. I have seen the effects of such pressure in my life too. My mother used to start the day very early to prepare everyone for school. At times, she confessed of fatigue and tiresome because she did virtually everything from cooking to attending school general meetings. I agree with the author that the plight of the Japanese mothers is due to the competition present in the society. The Japanese society has evolved into a society that success is dependent on academic excellence.

There is pressure to pass exams and secure a brighter future both among the children and their parents as well.
