Download file to see previous pages Consequently, many societies share a common belief, born of experience that diversity in their nationality is important for them to achieve their most important mission. Rebekah Nathan, who authored “Community and Diversity”, describes that the ineffectiveness of weak relations challenges the existence of a strong college community. “The End of Race” by Steve Olson explores the effects of intermarriages on the Hawaiian community and the universe. In “Small Change”, Malcolm Gladwell shows how civil-rights emerged and gained popularity through use of social media that fosters what he calls weak, temporary relationships. Therefore, I will elucidate on how developing integrated schools, encouraging intermarriages, participating and sharing helps in creating strong relationships, and eradicating preconceptions that have for long existed in the society.
Firstly, developing integrated schools can be a major point towards the development of strong relationships and a community free from cultural prejudices. Obviously, most children spent a better part of their lives in schools and any positive aspects that they develop while in school are likely to impact positively on their future lives. Most of schools will involve children or students from separates social, economic and political backgrounds and students will learn to appreciate their differences rather than viewing the differences negatively. According to Olson, schools and neighborhoods in Hawaii were integrated and children continued living harmoniously regardless of their differences. Olson states that “Children of different ethnicities continue to grow up together and marry, just as they did in the camps” (339). Such children will grow in harmony and chances of them being predisposed towards a certain culture or ethnic group are quite trifling.
