Living on a Farm or Living in the Hani Alshmemri Tiffin ENG 140 Living on a Farm or Living in the Country living is relativelydifferent to that city life depending on people’s preferences, but on one hand can be as much satisfying. Oftentimes, when people compare living on a farm from living in the city, there are a number of reasons they could think of, yet the three most common concerns that often stand out and are found to have significant differences are cost, entertainment, and lifestyle.

Whichever one’s priorities are, Insufficient resources restrict a person’s ability to choose his living environment. Thus, cost is oftentimes the first consideration when people choose between living in the city and living on a farm. Most people think that living on a farm in the countryside costs a lot lesser than the city life. A blogger from Des Moines, Iowa in fact calculated his family’s annual cost of living and compared it to those who live in Boston, Massachusetts. His computation showed that a difference of almost forty percent makes such huge difference for people who are thinking on which side of the country they wish to live in (Trent, 2007).

In addition, the cost of a small apartment in the city may already allow one to buy a house with a huge yard in the countryside. Optimizing the space that is readily available in the countryside allows people to save a lot more money at the same time. Either the back or the front yard can be used to grow one’s own vegetables and fruit trees as well. As a result, there is no need for them to buy some of the produce in the market, thus, allowing them to save a few dollars every month. Not only they are able to spare some money out of cultivating their own food, but they are also able to serve fresh and healthy food for the family.

On the other hand, as country living offers a cheaper place to live in, it may not provide as many choices to its residents when it comes to entertainment. The city, along with the diverse individuals who have their own ways of keeping up with the busy city life, offers diverse choices in making these people entertained. Small and big events such as gigs and concerts happen almost on a nightly basis. Movie theaters that present classical and modern films are found in almost every corner of the city street.

Pubs and restaurants that serve all kinds of beer and liquor from all over the world and serve a variety of good food also showcase local and national artists. They are found close to each other that one can go from any of them to another in just a few steps away. Furthermore, one can simply be entertained for free even when passing by a park or walking along the street by individual or group street performers. There are no limits as to the manner in which the city life could provide enjoyment to those living in it.

In contrast, unless walking around the neighborhood, participating in any local activities and star gazing satisfies one’s amusement, living on a farm is equally entertaining. Unlike the city, the country has only the moonlight and the stars to light the evening skies. Aside from the church choir singing on Sundays, only a few local artists dare to hold gigs or concerts in the community. It takes one to drive a few more kilometers in order to get to the nearest pub or restaurant to have a taste of the different beers and liquors they offer.

It is often said that the sun never sets in the city. With all things available within an arm’s reach, people never stop moving around. Keeping up with the life in the city means being able to cope with the fast-paced environment that involves working hard while keeping it balanced by having fun and taking time to enjoy life at the same time. Lifestyle in the city is one that is void of idleness and requires one to be tireless especially because there seems to be a lot of things that one can do.

More often than not, one spends more time at work or partying than at home. Conversely, living on a farm lacks the stressful lifestyle that residents in the city go through. After a hard day’s work, one is able to enjoy the rest of the day with his family either by playing with the children or watching television with the entire family. Because there streets are quiet at night in the country, one is able to sleep soundly and peacefully. The differences between living in these two sides of life depend mainly on how one chooses to live his life, as well as according to his needs and resources.

Expensive cost of living in a fast-paced environment yet with all things that satisfies one’s amusement within reach against an economical and relaxed lifestyle with very few places and things to entertain oneself are important things one should consider in choosing a place to settle in to. On the other hand, whichever one chooses, he should be prepared to live with the consequences of either the city or the country life.Reference:Trent. (2007, September 7).
