The smoking advert is one of the many examples of conclusive adverts that seek to improve the health of the population, mostly the young population by expounding on the problems resulting from smoking. The ad shows a child holding a cigarette using an adult’s hand. The message that this advert is trying to bring out is the idea that when adults smoke, children also smoke at the same time. The advert sought to ban smoking in health institutions. This is because, as the advert shows, when an individual smokes while in the hospital premises the patients also smoke at the same time, which affects their health since they might develop smoking repercussions such as lung cancer. The words inscribed in the advert that say, “when you smoke so do our patients” also help in cementing the message behind it (Capital Health / Caritas Health Group). Therefore, the ad is strategically designed to target the smokers and raise the awareness of smoking effects on non-smokers.
