Negative effect of technology on education Negative effect of technology on education One day my brother was given a lot of assignments, however I was surprised that he finished all the work in less than two hours. Then he told me that he had posted the assignment online .That is when I realized even though technology presents itself as a very useful tool in education, however, technology has a distracting effect on students, provides a tone of misleading information and can lead students to cheating and plagiarizing.
Cheating and plagiarism, has increased over the past years, according to McCabe about two thirds of 14000 students he interviewed, admitted to having cheat in exams and also in assignments. However, some of the students do not know that plagiarism is illegal. While, others claim they do not understand what they are being taught, that is why they cheat. In connection to this, they would like colleges to improve their communication skills (“Cheating in College”, 2010). While, Kirk Hanson believe that students cheat because of the workload.
Most of the students are given a lot of work at school and therefore for them to perform all the assignments they resort to internet. McCabe and Hanson agree that while all students at various level cheat on exams. It is students at the bottom and top who cheat more. According to them sharp students cheat so as to continue thriving while those at the bottom cheat so as to survive (“Cheating in College”, 2010). In conclusion, technology has provided students with a means of having higher GPAs without working hard in college.
However, some of them do not know that plagiarism is wrong.ReferencesCheating in College is widespread- But why? (July 19, 2010). n p r. Retrieved from http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=128624207
