Beauty Describe the composition of this image. Why is Barbie so prominently centered in the photograph?
The image is a photo of a Barbie doll and a grown woman who is dressed the same way as the doll all in black. Even their hair style is similar. Behind them is the writing about what the occasion is about (which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Barbie). Barbie symbolizes ideal beauty and body type image of the American girls and young women and hence her being featured in the photo symbolizes beauty of the American women.
Compare this image with that of Britney Spears in this portfolio. In what ways are they similar? Do they make the same point or not? Justify your response.
Britney Spears is a celebrity who just like Barbie is a symbol of beauty among the American girls and women. Britney the singer is an ultra-female who is portrayed with a sexy image from her dressing to here slim body type. This sexy portrayal of Britney is the same as the portrayal of Barbie which is a sexy doll, slim, nice shapely body type and figure which is the ideal body type of most young girls and women in America (similar as to that of Britney).
Barbie is also a fashion icon and is used to showcase almost all the recent fashions in the fashion industry. Britney also being a celebrity is also called to model many current fashions. Similarly, just the way Britney Spears is a superstar in not only America but the world over, Barbie has the same superstar image and hence the two share superstar image. The two (Britney Spears and Barbie) therefore based on the evidence described above share the same point and image according to the American culture (contemporary and otherwise).
