Section/# Summary of Article Though many things have changed over the years, one aspect of her teaching style and approach which has not is Mrs. Tanner’s emphasis on the student interaction as the framework of successful educational outcomes. Demographics have shifted due to the fact that when she began most of her students were white and middle class. Mrs. Tanner soon finds herself teaching a more and more diverse mixture of students that speak Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Spanish, and/or Hmong within their homes.
As such, where before her experience was integrating a teaching approach with children that almost exclusively spoke English as their primary language, her teaching style has been altered to seek to identify and engage with the students that exhibit different levels of English proficiency. Mrs. Tanner is the perfect example of an educator who has experienced what truly works within the classroom and sought to engage students and shareholders, while being sensitive to their unique cultural and lingual needs, with what has worked for her and her students for the past many years.
