In late 1980’s and 1990’s cell phones were used to call for help when accidents took place. But in the mid 1980’s they were life threatening as people were not well aware of its functionality. The life-saving effect of the cell phone became obsolete with the sudden increase in its numbers. According to the author the number of life saving effect was cancelled out by the life taking effect. Loeb and his co authors suggest that government enforces more critical policies and laws to reduce the number of traffic accidents caused by cell phone usage.
In my opinion, cell phones are dangerous for use as far as the road safety is concerned. The life saving effect is always there as well. Cell phones are beneficial in one way that when someone wants to call for help then he does not have to run to find phone instead he can directly make calls from his cell phone. On the contrary, if they are not used wisely they may have adverse effects on the safety of pedestrians and drivers. The people on road should not use cell phones as it draws your attention away from the road and driving.
Cell phone usage is beneficial if they are used wisely and intelligently and dangerous if they are used too much. Cell phone drives ones attention away from the road which can be dangerous if while driving or walking on road. When one steps out of his door and gets on the road, he is in danger. Safety should be given importance and people should follow rules of traffic. Cell phones are useful when one has to make emergency calls but they are dangerous in certain circumstances. For example if a person is walking on the road while busy on cell phone, his chances of crossing the road carelessly increase.
