Students have to abide by these rules and the breaking of the rules results in an action against the students that is taken by the school authorities. These rules are important for the running of the schools but almost every student has a tendency to dislike at least one rule of their school. My school was strict with regard to attendance and more than 3 absences in a month were not allowed. Our school had put forward a set of conditions under which we were allowed to be absent from school and this was the rule in my school that I disliked the most but eventually now I have understood the importance of regularity in educational institutions.
Schools in the United States consider regularity to be an essential part of education and conditions under which absenteeism is permitted are also put forward. It is considered to be the top most priority of the educational system to maintain attendance. It is a part of the school system that if students miss more than ten days, their parents or the students may be sued as well (Walsh et al 2010). Regularity was one of the most important part of the rules and regulations of my school as well. If the number of days that a student was absent reached to one week, it was compulsory that our guardians had to visit the school and inform the authorities of the reason for not attending school. The school authorities had put forward clear conditions under which the students were allowed to stay absent. A student could take an off from school if he was sick. Furthermore, a death of a family member was also a valid reason for being absent. Other important reasons included any religious events or other serious emergencies. The school had also provided for conditions under which holidays were not allowed. These included vacation trips, visits to relatives or unimportant events. Rishworth High School is an independent co-educational school in Halifax (UK) with very affluent children.
