English Petition to Waive the Mathematics Requirement Gordon Adams is a 43 year old at the Arizona University who is pursuing a Law with the dream of streamlining the flawed laws in Oklahoma. Being an old student, he has embarked on a constrained time schedule aiming to achieve his law degree and Doctorate within 71 months. The problem that he currently faces is that he has to delay his dream because he still have to take two mathematics courses that are preliminary requirements for his graduation.

Resultantly, he is petitioning the University to grant him a special treatment so that he does omits the two subjects to avoid deviating from his time schedule. To arrive at his decision, he consults from various law experts and they confirm that Mathematics is not necessarily applied in the law profession. As such, he argues that mathematics is an unnecessary course that contributes nothing to his career Gordon Adams is a member of the Pawnee tribe in Oklahoma and the first in his tribe to join the university.

After observing the level of injustice in his Indian society, he took a vow of moral commitment to streamline justice in his community. As a result, he embarked on a tight schedule of education on his path to become a qualified lawyer. By now, he has performed excellently in his GCE, SCC and is doing well in his undergraduate course in the ASU. However, he is currently facing a challenge in his educational path because he has to delay for a semester in order to satisfy the minimum mathematics requirement for him to graduate.

The implication of this is that he will not join the law school in the next fall. After consulting from the teachers and colleagues, he concludes that these subjects are unnecessary and files a petition to have them omitted in his program. The motive behind Adam’s petition makes it a reasonable and necessary offer that the university should grant to allow him to fight the war against injustice. Adam states that “I made a vow of moral commitment to seek out and confront injustice” (Adams 1).

In this statement, he indicates the motive that drives his zeal to become a professional lawyer. He has imperative reasons why this dream should not be shuttered by the ASU University. First, he is keen to investigate the necessity of the mathematics courses in his profession. He realizes that it is only a minimum requirement for graduation and omitting it would not hurt his expertise. On this ground, he feels that the university should allow him to omit these courses so that he can fit in his tight program.

Secondly, he argues that if at any time he would be required the subjects, he would hire a teacher to assist him in the subjects. This portrays his willingness to remain reasonable within his course of action. In essence, granting him the petition will assist him to become a justice advocate, which is advantageous to the community and the society at large. However, bending the law on the minimum requirement for graduation will be subjecting the ASU curriculum to criticism. This will imply that the ASU curriculum structure is questionable and that law students can do without the minimum mathematics requirement.

In his petition, Adam states that, “I am seeking to only to dispose unnecessary items in my studies …” (3). The argument of Adam is that the two mathematic courses have no significant impact on his career and that he can do well without them. At the same time, he appreciates that mathematics is important for young learners who still have to mold their critical thinking skills. He feels that with his experience in engineering practice, he has sharpened his thinking skills more than the two courses would.

Resultantly, he justifies his petition by expressing his situation as a special case that would hurt neither his career not the reputation of the institution. In conclusion, the petition of Adams should be granted to allow him complete his university education. First, Adam is driven by a strong zeal to defend the community against extraneous forces of injustice, which is a dream of every community member in the society. Secondly, the subjects he seeks to omit have little impact if any in his career as a lawyer.

Allowing him to omit the course will help him achieve his dream in time without hurting the university curriculum. Being an adult who is intelligent, well equipped with reasoning skills it is likely that he will develop a good front to protect his community. In this regard, denying the petition will cause more harm than good to the community of the Oklahoma state. Consequently, I support the idea of Adam that he be allowed to omit the courses to allow him pursue a dream that will save the society from the face of injustice.
