Flight delays results from such reasons as repair and maintenance of the aircraft, security issues domestically or within the intended destination, issues stemming from the airport crew as well as possible delays in arrival of the respective aircraft. Other causes may be such as delays in baggage loading, furling, traffic congestion and such natural calamities as unfavorable weather conditions. In the event that such unfortunate occurrences happen, passengers awaiting departure often suffer greatly. The result of delayed flight includes lateness for strategic appointments, failure to meet deadlines as well as losses from delayed delivery of perishable products among others. Besides such losses, individuals often are stranded within the airport and are likely to incur other costs such as in refreshments as well as securing personal accommodation services in case the delay is beyond a single day. I happened to experience a flight delay in a leading African tourism destination where I spent my summer holiday last year. This formed a memorable experience in my life having never experienced such in my years of air travel. Though accompanied by my parents, I felt so much devastated by the experience because this was the first time I experienced such a delay. The airport had very disturbing loud noises from the landing and taking off air engines, which made me, have a very severe headache. My parents decided to take a stroll in the neighborhood of the airport but I was unable to accompany them due to the headache I suffered. They took me to one of the waiting bays where barely anyone else was and left me lodged on a chair as is shown by the picture. This was equally no comfortable as the disturbing noises were still very loud and clear. Moreover, the sight of the landing and taking off planes kept disturbing me as the waiting bay provided a very clear view of the running lanes. Besides, the weather was very hot and the airport lacked freshening facilities as I am used to when connecting flights at home. I really longed that I could get one where I would have a cold shower and freshen up as I waited because the feeling was very uncomfortable. Being alone as a woman in the waiting bay made me feel very terrified and bored and I regretted having not carried a novel on which I would have spent the time reading. In the struggle between boredom and the taunting headache, I fell into a sleep from which I would frequently awake due to a frightening noise as a plane took off from a nearby lane. It is when I was sleeping and after barely four hours of waiting that our plane arrived and we were scheduled to take off in an hour’s time. My parents came for me from the bay and this is when my dad took the photo of me as is presented. I was at last relieved with the good news, which revived my hope of leaving the horrible and stressful environment of the airport where I suffered severe headache, unbearably hot weather and too much noise as I had never suffered before. In conclusion, waiting in an airport for a delayed flight is not new to many travelers as it often occurs, either for short durations or even for prolonged periods. However, the experience had never occurred to me until this fateful day as I ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
