Most of the presidential doctrines are related to the cold war although there are other that are emerging due to the changing trends in the social, economic and political panorama. There are several doctrines that have been established which includes; Monroe doctrine, Roosevelt corollary, Truman doctrine, Johnson doctrine, Nixon doctrine, carter doctrine, Reagan doctrine, Clinton doctrine, bush doctrine, and Obama doctrine that is still in progress. (Keegan, 1990, p.26-37) The Truman doctrine was United States political reaction to the aggression and oppression by the Soviet Union demonstrated through communist movement in Turkey, Iran, and Greece.
The United States and Soviet Union had moved from being war allies to the cold war adversaries. The Soviet Union had delayed so much to withdraw from Iran, and the breakdown of cooperation in Germany provided escalating tension for the Truman doctrine. American policy makers realized that the instability in the region would lose Greece into communism. Greece and turkey were strategic allies for the Soviets, and this was compromising the United States foreign policy and strengthens the Soviet Unions.
