No matter how developed or technologically advanced people become, the choice of using the technology in appropriate way and of being a master, and not a slave, to technology, remains with human beings. The development in field of medicine, communication, media and social relationships, has changed the way people live their lives, and has provided them with freedom, equal opportunities, understanding, bonding and healthy life. Hence, with development of ‘global’ attitude in people and increase in communication between people from all over the world, today’s life offers more options, choices and freedom than what it had offered 50 years back.

Hence, it will be right to say that today’s world is far better than what it was 50 years back. Health Improvement There has been immense development in the field of medicine. Life expectancy of human beings has increased dramatically (Ferrante 326). Countries with advanced market economies have seen the increase of 30 years in life expectancy of its population since 1900 (Ferrante 326). In developing countries, the life expectancy has increased by 20 years or more since last 100 years (Ferrante 326).

However, it is since last fifty years that there has been a dramatic increase in life expectancy. This shows that the quality and the speed of medical treatment have improved dramatically. Advances in medical world have helped human beings to conquer most of the diseases and physical pain, and to live a life which is free of pain and physical disorders. Fifty years ago, the mortality rate of people under age 45 was 20% (Ferrante 326). The rate of mortality among people under age of 45 dropped to 8% by year 2005 and today, death in young age is almost unheard of as 85% of all deaths occur in people who are old, i.e. of 55 years or more (Ferrante 326).

This shows that as far as health and medical treatment is concerned, today’s world is far better than what it was 50 years ago. By increasing life expectancy, the advances in medical world have created advantages for personal and social relationships of human beings. Blessings of family Sociologist Holger Stub (1982), in his book “The Social Consequences of Long Life,” has described various ways in which people have experienced positive changes in their relationships because of altered family structures due to increase in life expectancy (Ferrante 326).

Parents are most important aspect in children’s life. They are not only mentors but are also a source of love and emotional nourishment. However, 50 years ago, due to low life expectancy, the possibility of enjoying the company of parents till adulthood was a rare thing. However, the increase in life expectancy has reduced the possibility of losing one or both parents by the age 16 (Ferrante 326). 50 years back, the possibility of losing one or both parents by the age of 16 was more than 10% while today, it is less than 1% (Ferrante 326).

Similarly, the increase in life expectancy of children and infants has made it possible for parents to see their children grow in healthy and happy way (Ferrante 326). This shows that today’s life offers more healthy life, emotional bonding between members, freedom to make choices and quality, than fifty years back. Hence, today’s life is much better than what it was 50 years back. Moreover, the development in the information technology has added various positive aspects
