Some sociologists believe that the concept of sport matches with the concept of games and claim that both games and sports come close to the concept of playful competitions. “Sports can be recreational as well are recreational activities can also be a sport”. To some sociologists, the term sport falls into one of the categories of play. Another writer, Edwards, does not seem to be agreeing with the belief of such sociologists. He believes that sport and play have different meanings and these terms cannot be said close to each other by any means. Considering such beliefs of different scholars, the author has worked towards establishing a proper definition of sport by trying to find out a significant difference or similarity between the terms sport, play, and work. Conclusion Summing it up, this article is an effort to find out whether sport has some association with the concept of play or its roots go back to the concept of work. The author has made an effort to analyze viewpoints of different scholars in trying to come up with a proper definition of sport from sociological point of view. Summary: Article 2 Introduction In The Anthropology of Sport, the author acknowledges the success of some sport sociologists in coming up with somewhat acceptable definitions of sport. ...
In the start of the article, the author has listed some situations related to sport activities and has asked the readers to identify whether those situations fall into the category of sport or not. The author has also asked the readers to give reasons behind their answers. One of the thoughts, which the author has mentioned in this article, is that the meaning of sport changes when a person is put into some other cultural settings. The meaning of sports is not the same in every culture and that is the reason why we get different definitions from the sociologists of different countries and cultures. Some groups of sociologists cannot make a clear distinction between sport, play, and work because of the difference in meanings of sport related words in different cultures. Conclusion Summing it up, there is no single definition of sport, which we can apply to all cultures. In any two cultures, the concepts of sports and rituals are not same. Extenuating circumstances, nonexistence of physical sports in some societies, and difference in cultures make it complicated for the sociologists to come up with one specific definition of sports from anthropological point of view. Summary: Article 3 Introduction In Masking Sense of Sports, the author deviates from the problem of establishing an acceptable definition of sport and comes up with a psychological discussion regarding involvement of a person in competitive sports either as a spectator or as a player. The uncertainties, risks, and threats associated with the life of a person are also discussed in this article. Making Sense of Sports Attraction to sports is associated with a dark truth about the nature of humans. The truth, which a scholar has described ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
