Academic Objectives and Career Goals in Engineering and Construction - Scholarship Essay Example

Whilst studying B.S civil engineering, I noted that society needs structural improvements to enhance livelihoods thus making it paramount to translate such to an academic goal (Royal, 71). Concurrently, this culminates in my clear objectives, which are to obtain a permanent job and work as a technician or designer within the civil manufacturing and construction realm. This is attributable to my continuous and imperative hard work, which allows me to gain resourceful experience and enhance the growth of my career satisfactorily. My accomplishments seen in numerous awards and accomplishments indicate my suitability. Consequently, my subsidiary objective is not only to attain a full-time job but also to work in a manner that creates adequate personal satisfaction. My career goal entails obtaining an impeccable quality education in engineering and technology and other critical academic realms to enable efficient completion of projects with less stress and procrastination that would highly develop personal satisfaction in various assignments (Royal, 71). To advance my work motivation and eliminate unnecessary stress venturing into new careers proves vital with clear goals that are significant as they help individuals to take up, and make jobs more fulfilling (Royal, 80). Embracing engineering projects without clear goals is detrimental, as it would hinder the realization of expected results hence require a holistic knowledge and understanding.
Improving cost-engineering skills greatly adds value and techniques to one’s career within the engineering sector. This is because there is a growing international demand for engineers who can adequately impart affordability and cost engineering skills to support the effectiveness of organizations. Cost engineering has been instrumental in my previous endeavors in Vietnam within “Glowtec Environmental Group” as I procure and allocate resources within the community. Indeed, I have to weigh the benefits arising from a project upon correlation with materials and expertise needed before embracing the project. Failure to cost the project is a recipe for misunderstanding and diminished transparency thus the need to embrace it for the future (Royal, 72).
Planning and scheduling are fundamental concepts in engineering especially when one is a manager (Royal, 72). Proper time management in my previous projects catalyze the achievement of other factors since it helped in setting proper guidelines, schedules and sticking to the time set by either contractors or clients (Royal, 72). Therefore, Planning skills are paramount since the projects are strictly dependent on various factors that include resources, weather patterns, which define the least or maximum period that a project can last.
Project management skills are critical as evident in my previous experiences in the “Central Basin Municipal Water District” project where together with managers we ascertain the viability of projects especially with the current economic challenges thus calling for proper management skills (Royal, 72). Engineering project constraints and pressure have increased the need for creative and breakthrough performance (Royal, 80). This in turn increased the need for trainee engineers to advance their management skills to have absolute effectiveness towards attaining projects goals and objectives. Conclusively, an appropriate engineering career requires adequate academic integration to attain dynamic skills that would give a professional advantage globally.
