DEVELOPED EDUCATION CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT STUDIES Name of the student Name of the institution Date of submission Introduction This is a continuation unit of the Introduction to Education Curriculum Development Studies that we had learned previously. The unit touches on several issues concerning educational curriculum development. As an experienced lecturer, I have a detailed course outline that entails various sub-topics touching on curriculum development amongst different age groups. In administering this unit, I will involve my class through individual and group discussions so as to ensure proper understanding of every critical element in relation to curriculum growth. To ensure that my class becomes the best at the end of the term, I will test students’ understanding and knowledge in different ways as discussed but should be embedded on examination administration procedures. The examination is divided into three parts, that is, two mid-term examinations also known as Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) which constitute an average of 20 % will be done after every three weeks. These CATSs will be followed with final examination representing 60%. In addition, there will be individual assignments that will be awarded 10% and group assignment attracting 10%. The summation of all those tests add up to 100%. The examinations are most often vigorous and hence will encourage my students to dedicate their entire ten weeks in working hard in order to achieve the best. In most cases, I tend to advise my students to program their studies in a manner that makes it possible to undertake and excel in their studies within a short time possible. Furthermore, encouraging students will always be my character as to find means of acquiring the practical experiences that are necessary for a working environment. The General Objectives of Administering this Unit: To equip the students with knowledge of curriculum development practices and real life issues that applies to every livelihood (Partridge et al., 2013). The Specific Objectives of Administering this Unit: The student should be able to do the following by the end of this unit: Come up with a more efficient and appropriate way of establishing a curriculum development goals. Illustrate the strategies to consider will approaching curriculum development Describe the effects associated with a change of curriculum. Explain the issues to consider while changing the curriculum to be in line with your profession as an individual. Use an output based approach to have a curriculum planning design in place Raise objectives and goals of curriculum development as an element of economic growth. Evaluate the curriculum development of people and advice accordingly. Illustrate the theoretical mechanisms to approach curriculum development. Suggest the appropriate choices of the contents of a curricular. Clearly explain the purpose of curriculum development. Therefore, the objectives described above will be achieved through a proper and thorough understanding of the unit's contents as outlined below:- Contents 1. The nature and introduction of curriculum development in relation to educational growth. This will encompass; What is curriculum development in relation to educational growth? The curriculum development mechanisms and models, that is, the process and objectives of the model development Issues relating to curriculum development team 2. The critical aspects of curriculum development in academic environment Key goals and objectives of curriculum development in ensuring academic progress Importance of curriculum development in academic environment The various phases of curriculum development, that is; Establish the level in which the curriculum development program is to be initiated and shared. Describe the learner’s needs in connection with the expectations of the other relevant bodies. Identify the aspirations and setbacks associated with curriculum development program To generate an overall preview of the curriculum development program, the critical issues to be taught and learned, the outline of the sub-topics and detailed assessments To distribute the various curriculum development sub-topics in line with relevant goals and objectives to amongst the curriculum development team members Consider revising and implementing the curriculum development program Suggest an effective evaluation strategy for curriculum development program 3. Implementation of curriculum development program in a business environment On completion of a curriculum development program, the teams involved will revise the entire development process and thus preparing it ready for implementation (Partridge, et al., 2013). The developed curriculum is the final output we use as teachers together with our students. The developed curriculum will undergo a process known as Pre-testing, which entails confirming the efficiency of the curriculum developed amongst a few students who are intended to use the advanced curriculum. The implementation phase entails: The various outputs of the curriculum development Testing process and revision of the developed curriculum by the team involved The suggested team to recruit and offer training services to the facilitators The implementation phase of the developed curriculum after undergoing revision process 4. The monitoring and evaluation process of the developed curriculum Monitoring involves continuous verification by the team involved in the course generation at every level. This will involve outlining the activities so as to achieve the expected outcome; the curriculum development members will be in a position to identify the challenges that may be experienced in the implementation phase of the curriculum. The issues to be monitored will include: The criteria involved in the students’ selection and admission in various schools & colleges, that is; Do the students selected meet the set educational standards as required by the registrar of the institution in question? Is the selection criteria used appropriately to be trusted in ensuring fairing and equity while considering the students to be given priority? The teaching fraternity to be involved in administering the new course should be interrogated to ensure they are the best to be entrusted with the new task, that is; Will the teachers be readily available to administer the new course as requested? Are the teachers motivated enough to deliver as required by the relevant body? The teaching fraternity capable of following the developed curriculum to the letter as requested Should there be any further training for the identified teachers who are to undertake the developed curriculum The teaching and learning strategies to be utilized in administering the new course, that is; Will be the teaching and learning methods suggested for the new course appropriate? Is there a correlation between the learning methods approved for the new curriculum and the expected level of outcome anticipated? Does the expected outcome of the new course practically applicable in real life situation? The assessment tasks to be followed in the process, that is, the rules and regulations suggested during the implementation process of the new curriculum appropriate and are there a surety that they will be observed to the letter The necessary learning resources to be utilized in the administration of the developed curriculum, that is to say; Will be the suggested books, magazines, journals and other necessary learning materials be readily accessible and available to the teaching fraternity and the students? Are other necessary facilities such e-learning and libraries available to teachers and students? Will there be enough funds to acquire these learning materials on time The knowledge and understanding of the students will be gauged by their performance in the new course, this will involve examining them and finding out their scores. Evaluation involves gauging the various activities involved in the new curriculum development to establish their effectiveness in line with the required output. The significance of evaluating these new courses includes:- To establish the level of achievement of the key goals & objectives To establish the new curriculum effectiveness To investigate the performance of the new curriculum so as to find out ways of selling the loopholes To establish the general level of satisfaction of the new curriculum as required by the set standards The issues analyzed and evaluated in the new curriculum development include:- The adequacy and availability of the learning resources that are required to facilitate implementation of the new curriculum. The literacy and competence of the teaching fraternity to handle the new curriculum. The availability of adequate time to ensure proper and thorough understanding of the newly developed curriculum (Partridge et al., 2013). The relevancy and accuracy of the contents of the new curriculum and their practical impact on the targeted parties. The relationship between various aspects of the new curriculum as suggested by the curriculum development team (Rodgers, 2014). The qualifications as per the entry requirements of the selected students to pursue the newly developed curriculum. Strengths and Challenges of Teaching this topic There a number of benefits and setbacks associated with teaching this unit of "Advanced Education Curriculum Development Studies." The strengths include:- The teacher enjoys autonomy Compared to other teachers, can enjoy my independence in the sense that am able to develop my course outline and decide the strategy as to which I will deliver my lecture. Therefore, my week’s plan and administration of the unit is enjoyable. Additional Training The college now offers additional training services to the lecturers hence equipping us with the necessary competent skills enough to be delivered. The training gives us the confidence as the teaching fraternity to handle our students and give them the best that will help them in the practical aspects of their lives. Relatively enjoyable working conditions Unlike other institutions, our administration allows us only to have two lectures of 40 minutes in a week hence is able to plan my schedule well and involve myself with other relevant activities during my off days; this also allows me to mingle with my family freely. The administration also do not mind my mode of delivery to students as long as I am able to cover my course outline, this as well enables me to work from home sometimes while sharing with my students via the email. Handsome Reward One aspect that I love most is to have a positive impact on somebody’s life. Therefore teaching and improving my students’ lives normally gives my joy a lot. The remuneration that I receive as a lecturer is also encouraging and thus makes me enjoy what is doing. Challenges on the other hand include:- Lack of commitment by the students Despite enjoying the working conditions, some students do not commit themselves to the work as required of them. They students in question do not participate in group discussions neither do they carry out adequate research on the assignment task given to them. Pedagogical Strategy As discussed earlier, my mode of delivery will involve giving lectures using projectors where students are able to take notes and answer their questions in areas where they have difficulties. In addition, I will give the students individual assignments to do extensive research and share their findings in class with others. Likewise, there will be group assignments in relation to curriculum development and class presentations as well on the same concept. These presentations will be awarded some marks hence will require the students' full commitments in their respective areas. Conclusion In the lesson plan, the teacher will employ interactive method in handling different sub-topics. Students will be classified in groups in which they will be given sub topics to handle, and continuous assessment tests (CATs) will be based on the topics, which have been discussed in class. Lesson plans act as blueprints on what the teacher would like to accomplish by the end of the topics. The lesson plan further acts as guidelines for the student to read ahead and cover topics on their own. As stated by Ruiji (2012), lesson plan gives the teacher and student's vigor to have a full overview of what is expected of them by the end of any particular study.
