Brief Descriptions Organizations Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) This is the largest professional organization worldwide that is dedicated to ensuring that the individuals with disabilities, talents or gifts improve their educational success (CEC, 2011). It sets professional standards, advocates for persons with exceptionalities as well as the right governmental policies and provides professional development (CEC, 2011). In addition it also helps professionals get the appropriate resources and conditions necessary for an effective professional practice. In its operations CEC targets the students, parents, administrators, teachers, related service providers as well as paraprofessionals (CEC, 2011). Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented (CAGT) This is a nonprofit organization (CAGT, 2011). It has a history of about 30 years in provision of leadership as well as support to educators and parents of the gifted young in Colorado (CAGT, 2011).
