room of the Future Affiliation ROOM OF THE FUTURE Introduction: It is known that education is a very importantaspect in humans’ life. Over the history, that was the driving force for people to establish schools using all the available resources. Along times, people created and expanded different kinds of educational institutes and hence the importance of classrooms and their contents and requirements began to increase. It is well known that educational classes have a tremendous importance in the education process. It is how knowledge has been transferred from teachers to students. These classes are also essential in easing both teachers and students equally. As for the teachers, classes allow them to convey information to the students with the fastest and easiest ways possible using the current educational means. History of classroom in Saudi Arabia: In the past, people in my home country, (Saudi Arabia) used to send their children to teachers just to make them read and write. These teachings used to occur in mosques or public places such as the market. Teachers go to students carrying their tools and subjects of interest which requires a vast effort. Later, education developed to include math and many other sciences taught in classrooms. However, students have a lower comprehension than expected due to the absence of any surrounding changes in the classrooms. These rooms were always the same with no changes in windows, boards, lights, benches and even chairs which can be a major cause of boredom during the educational process especially if students had to do different subjects in the same rooms after one another. These classrooms do not have the basic requirements of the educational environment. The school paths were very narrow and number of bathrooms was limited. The windows in these rooms were very small accompanied with dim/poor lighting. There were no air conditioners or heating equipment not to mention the school chairs were assigned for more than one student at the same time with all the discomfort and inability to learn associated with these conditions. Current classroom in Saudi Arabia: Newer schools were built after a while with different kinds and spaces and more available resources including more proper built classrooms. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, there are fast direction for the development of education in Saudi Arabia in all fields, in terms of curriculums and school designs. King Abdullah set up a good project which named development project for the development of the public education system and a world-class learning to keep up of the modern educational for environment changes. My thoughts of classroom in the future: Classrooms in 2023 will make students smarter in a better way than is currently done in 2014. This will be achieved by supplying both students and teachers with a lot of technology; Supplying teachers with up to date educational tools which are subject-specific. These tools should be suitable for the next generation and match their way of thinking. DVDs can be provided for students as a substitute for the normal textbook. Each subject will have dedicated rooms allowing for students to be immersed in. Finally all students will take courses on the same subjects. In the future, students should go to different classrooms assigned for different subjects with their own nature, feelings, tools and even posters on walls should be assigned to that specific subject and we can see some examples below. Math classes will be taught in their own classrooms which have everything related to the subject. Even the class architecture takes certain geometry. Doors, ceiling, boards and windows will have geometric shaped that are hollow inside them to match the echo. Also, chairs and tables can be put in a certain way matches the math class. Lights can be inside some room decorations to avoid the full glaring to students and teachers. History classes can have some automated drawings on the walls that can be changed according to the topic presented. Windows can have electronic curtains that can be shut when the projector start to run and similar concept can be applied to the lights. The projector can be used to present movies that are related to the learned topic. Classrooms should have a small theatre and chairs that are designed specifically for this type of subjects. Science classes consist of two parts, the first one is fully equipped to the subject’s teachings and the second part is prepared to apply what has been taught including full laboratory for all physical and chemical experiments equipped with state of the art instruments. Experiments will be repeated so that two experiment results can be comparable as well as measured in a similar phenomenon (Porte, 2010). Currently there is some technology being used in the classroom. But until now students have a backpack that they must carry from class to class, distracting them from their learning. The competency model that is proposed addresses class problems and reflects the applicable features of student’s behavior, skills, knowledge as well as attitudes which have effect on learning and performance (Onjira & Gilbert, 2009). The future of classrooms will be filled with technology. Students will not need backpacks to carry their books in. They will use a tablet to connect to their classrooms because this next generation of students has been born with technology, they will be much more used to communicating through technology (Jessica, Jeff, & Warren, 2009). Using technology in this manner will allow for easy access of information in a very attractive and flexible way for the students (Ricardo, Tomeu, Arnau, Joe, Margaret, & Francesc, 2009) Each room is used for many purposes in the typical school. A problem can arise when a student learns two different courses in the same room. The rooms are non-specific and dont offer a consistent learning environment. There is no opportunity to be immersed in the subject. In the future the teacher will teach in classrooms that are specific to their subject matter (Lackney & Tanner, 2006). Mathematics will be taught in Mathematics rooms, History will be taught in History rooms, Science will be taught in Science rooms. By allowing each subject to have a dedicated space in the school facility, the students can become more immersed in the subjects. This will improve the performance of the students and teachers. The teachers will not use pen and paper as in the past; they will use smart board. A teacher will be able to recall previous days boards and move information to different screens if needed. Bringing technology and teaching methods together will allow for an additional way to teach students. Showing more immediate application of the ideas and subjects being taught will allow for faster digestion of information by the student (Jim, 2010). The current curriculum offers mostly broad, general ideas and subjects. These subjects are long and intensive and can be exhaustive to learn. The future curriculum will consist of all of the students taking courses in the same subjects. The courses will be very specific and allow for faster application of learning. The system will also allow for students to move up quickly to the next level of courses if they are capable. Communication will be automated and it will be easy for learners to communicate and interact among themselves and with teachers (Bryan & Schulze, 2010). Communication competence development will be encouraged as well as cultural learning increasing the opportunity of students to make use of more complex syntactic structures. This will lead to high quality language production in much better ways compared to communicating face to face (Fischer, 2011). In conclusion, education has changed a lot with time. This has been brought about by rapid change in technology. Since technology is changing day after day, the future classroom will be more efficient in creating a lot of improvement in learning and performance.
