My and Professional Growth in the University of Phoenix - Personal Statement Example

Experience Introduction My stay in the of Phoenix has had a great influence in my personal and professional growth. It has helped in developing the right attitude, goals and perception towards my career. The experience in the class with the lectures and my fellow students has made me to have a better understanding of the Human services degree and field of career that I’m pursuing. Personally I have also understood how to deal and relate with people better. Reflection I feel that learning has helped me cultivate my personal growth. The Education I have attained has helped to improve my analytical thinking as it has helped me to be more rational and critical on the choices I make. It improved my chances of furthering my career as I attained better understanding and passion about what I was doing. It has helped me develop the right attitude for success. Through my years of study, I have developed self-confidence, respect, and an optimistic attitude towards my career life. I also can relate and interact with my colleagues in a better way. It helped me believe in myself and set plans to develop my skills and as a result I was able to map out my career goals and objectives. It helped me realize my potential. It help me improve how I act around people, how I react towards critics and how to react to failures. I am also more accommodative to people because of the better relations that have been enhanced by my learning experience in the university and this is a significant aspect for my career. My career goal is to become a social worker in an international organization where I will be able to meet and relate with people from all over the world. Evaluation The courses I undertook and the experience I had during my program of study contributed to my problem solving, growth and better communication skills. Through relating with the lectures and the group works and discussions I had with my colleagues I am able to listen to people and give out my opinions. I can now communicate better through oral or written forms. Through listening to people opinions and suggestions I am able to solve my problems as I learn from their experience and suggestions. I am also able to solve other people’s problem by giving friendly and professional advice. My program of study contributed to my growth personally as it opened my eyes to the large world. It made me develop and have the right attitude, career objective and goals. The learning program helped me develop my collaboration, utilization and information retrieval process. Through the group works involved in the learning process helped me to learn to listen and understand people. This enhanced my collaborative skills as it made me more accommodative to people’s critics, opinions, and suggestions (Collison & Garfield, 2013). I was also able to learn the utilization of information. I learnt when to give advice, suggestions and opinions to people when it mattered. What I would have done differently to improve my experience is to participate more in the class and group discussions. Analysis My professional goal or aim is to become a social worker basing on the fact that I pursued Human Services as my major in the university. There is great extent to which my current and future goals are influenced by the fact that I have completed my graduate studies. The bachelor program has been preparing me on how to handle the varied and numerous challenges that are yet to be faced in my professional career. I must say that my objectives while I was still pursuing the program are so different from the ones I have after completion of the studies. However, there is one thing that remains clear and it will never seize to be a part of me. This is the desire to be at the frontline to help the society as a whole and serve them with utmost diligence and respect. I used to read many books and conduct various researches with the aim of being top in my class. Now that that phase is over, I have to keep up with the current information and trends so as to increase my knowledge base and expertise. After the completion of the course, I still have numerous plans for myself. In the next five years, I intent to enroll myself in other programs. It is my desire to pursue something in Health and social Care with a specific focus on Social Care Management and international health (Collison & Garfield, 2013). Community youth work also looks like another interesting field that deals with the association with the different youth found in a community and organizing them to perform a certain task. Through the attendance of these programs, it will help develop my critical thinking, creative thinking and problem solving aspect in me. These programs will also nurture certain values in me, like care, concern and love for the people I will be interacting with. It will be very necessary for me to adopt these qualities so that I am able to comfortably interact with different people and am able to obtain the necessary information that I will be seeking. It therefore becomes very important for me to pursue courses that will enable me have an excellent public relations. There are some organizations I intend to enroll in to be part of the team in helping the world change and become a better place. The American Public Human Services Association- APHSA, is an organization I hold a high esteem for and I intend to join since it gives an individual a certificate that makes them qualified to do social work in any area of the world. Close in competition is the Association for Community Organization and Social Administration-ACOSA, which is an organization that deals with majority of the community based projects (William, Richard & Bosworth, 2009). I have attended few seminars in social work while I was still pursuing my career. They fall into various categories that are of utmost importance in my career. These seminars involve training of social workers. I attended the UT School Social Work Conference where the main theme was, Giving Back to the Society the Best. The seminar made a lot of revelations to me in the line of social work and is currently better placed to make informed decisions. Conclusion I appreciate the work my lecturers have done in my life. They have played a huge role that befits me to sufficiently thank them for preparing me for life.
