Latino Education And Civic Engagement The Latinos is the largest minority groups in U.S and many students face varied challenges especially when it comes to getting proper education. The research reveals that about one out of two Latino students drop out the school because of varied challenges in the learning environment (Brayboy, Bryan, Castagno and Maughan 189). Despite the challenges, about 40 percent of them continue with their education in high school and about 20 percent finish their degree studies. The educational challenges impact their capability to achieve social, economic, mobility and political aspects. The large numbers of Latino children have their opportunities structured under the education policies, which are implemented with slight input from the Latino society members. Although, the education policies provided in the U.S.A. are structured to offer Latino students effective education opportunities, but, the policies fail to address the unique challenges Latino students face in various schools. Failure to complete high schools level is one of the challenges that impact the Latino students; thus exposing many of them to poor paying jobs or remaining jobless in the future. Increased high school dropouts among the Latino students have increased tremendously because of various issues. Some of the students find it difficult to cope up in the learning environment because of ethnicity discrimination; thus, they drop out of school before completing their high school education. The number of Latino students who make to higher levels of learning such as universities is low. Research studies indicate that many Latino immigrants are academically behind; thus when they move to U.S.A, they face many challenges in achieving their academic goals. This affects them negatively because they cannot be able to advance their living standards unless they improve their education skills. Garcia (25) argues that the US economy has become a competency society for high paying jobs because of the current education system. This system allows people to compete for high paying jobs because the economy is now being driven by technological innovation and information. Therefore, many Latino students who are unable to meet the required education system are unable to meet their social-economic goals. The financial issues aggravate the education as well as health issues impact effective performance of Latino students; thus, many of them are unable to meet their demanding goals. The financial problems contributed by increased poverty levels and poor paying jobs among the Latino parents have significantly affected the education of the Latino students. Many Latino parents who move to U.S.A. have low education; thus, they fail to secure high paying jobs in the competitive job market. This has contributed to education challenges for their children studying in the USA schools because many of them are unable to pay for their children universities school fee. This hinders the capacity for Latino students to achieve their future dreams. Moreover, financial issue aggravates health of the Latino students; thus contributing to the high rate of health issues such as obesity. Health is linked with education performance in that many Latinos living under the poverty levels encounter health problems because of poor eating habits. The research study indicates that about 33 percent of Latino children suffer from obesity due to poverty issues. This contributes to health issues; thus, many of them drop out from learning institutions before realizing their educational goals. For instance, some obese children undergo psychological torture from friends; hence, the rate of school drop out is high. Poverty hinders Latinos students from performing well in school; thus contributing to poor performance in schools. The poor education policies in U.S.A. do not favor Latino students especially the provision of free education to non-citizens students in the U.S.A school. Some students perform well, but they fail to get a full scholarship or sponsor. Therefore, many of those students living under poverty levels are unable to meet their educational needs. The US education system is described as a centre for democratic governance; thus, there is a strong relationship between civic engagement and education (Garcia 24). The school serves as the main ground for fostering socioeconomic and political issues for immigrants. The education system is under political debate as to whether the public government schools may cater for the needy students especially the immigrants. Despite the efforts that the government has put to eradicate racial discrimination, the issue of racial discrimination is still rampart in many U.S public schools. Therefore, many Latino students do not have equal opportunities with the US students when it comes to university sponsor because of racism (Brayboy, Bryan, Castagno and Maughan 163). Although the government has made efforts to cater for the needs of the minority Latinos, many of them especially in the rural, areas still face challenges of accessing education. The global marketplace nowadays relies heavily on well-educated labor force; thus, the education system offered to Latino students in the U.S.A. does not present them with opportunities to meet their demanding goals. The education system provided in the U.S.A. is the one that will offer the nation’s Latino workers a significant tool to participate and share in the U.S.A development. The targeted investment in education programs offer students opportunities to improve their skills and become knowledgeable. Many Latino who move to U.S especially those with low education face challenges of getting well-paying jobs. Many of them work in areas where they get low wages because of their formal education background. This limits their access to white-collar jobs and hampers the upward mobility for students. Therefore, the education system offered to their children in the US school is effective in helping them to improve their skills; thus, becoming successful in the future. However, despite the challenges that the Latino students face, the US government have made significant efforts towards helping the Latinos improve their social economic status. The Latinos are among the immigrants who accounts for the highest population in the US, and they are the majority of the groups that have been impacted by varied challenges. The education system in US now caters for the needs of the Latino students in the rural areas especially provision of scholarships in order to enable Latino students meet their demanding goals (Brayboy, Bryan, Castagno and Maughan 162). For example, the CHCI programs offer considerable financial aid to students. This programs aim towards increasing the level of Latinos students joining high schools and other higher levels of learning in order to become successful citizens in the future. The programs offer full sponsor to the minority Latino students; thus, effective opportunities for many Latino students who want to study hard. This is essential because it helps them become successful; hence, meeting the demanding needs of employment in the contemporary American society. The education system in US plays the central role of informing and producing democratic citizens; thus, offering the immigrants opportunities to become informed citizens. Therefore, the public policy of CHCI (Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute) of 2009 focuses on providing financial investments to the Latino families, who are living under poverty levels (Behnke, Laura and Ronald 387). Under this policy, the government helps the Latino through providing them with financial incentives in order to start small businesses that will enable them to support their children in schools. This program is essential because it helps the minority groups to cater for the education needs; thus, solving the issue of education in schools. This fellowship program focus on issues pertaining health, higher education, housing and legislation issues; thus, it is one the effective programs that provide opportunities to Latino students in U.S. This is crucial because the CHCI programs seek to strengthen skills and enhance leadership skills of Latino students. Despite the challenges that globalization has imposed on the majority of the Latinos, the government has made a significant attempt of promoting academically rigorous assignments in order to prevent school drop outs. The population rates for the Latinos continue to increase; thus, the government has made significant attempts of providing education system that meet the needs of Latinos immigrants. The government provides high quality education for Latino American students through investing in the intellectual potential for the young Latino Americans. For instance, the government caters for the education needs of each Native American through setting financial opportunities for bilingual school programs (Bunch and Panayotova 25). The bilingual program aims to assist indigenous students to conserve the cultural identity, while trying to assimilate English language. This education program is essential because it enables Latino students to utilize untapped resources in the US; hence achieving their social economic benefits. Although the education policies provided in the U.S are structured to offer Latino students effective education opportunities, the policies fail to address the unique challenges Latino students face in various schools. Latin students face varied challenges including financial problems, health issues, racial discrimination; thus, many of them drop out of schools. The poor education policies in U.S do not favor Latino students especially the provision of free education to non-citizens students in the US schools. However, the CHCI policy offer Latino financial support and they offer full scholarship to intellectual students in order to help them achieve their academic goals. The federal government also invests on the education system such as on bilingual curriculum in order to help each Native American adapt to the learning environment.
