Civic Engagement Project: San Francisco Animal Care and Control The San Francisco Animal Care and Control isa facility, which delivers courteous, effective, and responding to all aspects involved in animal care to the residents of San Francisco. San Francisco Animal and Control is responsible for caring the abandoned, rejected, injured, and mistreated animals. In addition, the facility oversees the implementation of local and state animal control and welfare laws. The facility has been instrumental for promoting sound mechanisms with the aim of ensuring health in animals.

San Francisco Animal Care and Control receives approximately12, 000 animals on annual basis (Fine 347). The facility depends on volunteers to help in the various projects that aim at ensuring a good health for animal. San Francisco Animal and Control believes that working with animals requires public participation to offer insightful ideas with intent of improving the quality of animals in the control unit. The people who should give their volunteer services should be aged 18 years and above.

The Animal Care and Control does not accept short-term volunteers. In the San Francisco animal and control, I performed a variety of services such as cleaning the animal playing areas, washing their toys, and removed animal fecal matter from the shelter. I felt this was humane way of showing kindness to animals. In the San Francisco Animal Care and Control, I applied my prior experience of working with animals to offer my volunteering services. I have a vast knowledge in handling of pets from the time I was young.

A prior working with animal was one of the requirements of my volunteer services at the San Francisco Animal and Control. Thus, I was able to comfortably clean the animal playing areas and wash their toys without any difficult. This is unlike the volunteers who did not have the experience to handle animals and their applications were turned down. In addition, I learnt new skills such as proper way to care for the mistreated animals and smooth way to engage with community. Moreover, I realized the community of San Francisco is dedicated to caring of animals through provision of volunteer services (Fine 347).

Further, the management in San Francisco animal care and control has devised political sound mechanisms to look at the health of animals. My experience at San Francisco Animal Care and Control was a good platform for me to evaluate the government and people’s value in San Francisco. I observed that advocacy for the rights of animals takes different forms such as cleaning their shelters, washing their playing toys, and removing the waste products from their sleeping cubes. This attribute is common among the people of San Francisco.

Reflecting on this attribute, I felt obliged to embrace the same trend in the society. Caring for environment encompasses observing good health both plants and animals. Politically, the experience at the San Francisco Animal Control helped me to access the level of the efforts of the government of United States in ensuring that communities to create. The presence of the animal care and control at San Francisco is a valuable project that can help the communities living around this area. In addition, it conforms to the United Nation Convention on Animal Rights.

The relevance of government involvement in protecting the animals as well as cultural attributes associated with animal rights is a reflection of what we learn in political science- community development. The animal care and control indicates that the government of United States has endeavored to conserve and take care of vulnerable, severely sick, and injured. Communities around this area freely offer their voluntary services with the prime intention of ensuring g the animal receive a maximum care (Fine 350).

The management at the San Francisco has worked tirelessly to implement sound policies to ensure proper adherence to best practices, which promote health in animals. In conclusion, my experience at the San Francisco Animal Care and Control was extremely awesome. My voluntary work at the facility enabled me to recognize that I had good skills to work with animals. The experience at the facility was a prudent platform for me to assess one of the initiatives the government has established such as caring for the animals.

It is my feelings that learning institutions should encourage students to participate in community services and visit places such as San Francisco Animal and Control. The facility is a good place to observe civic role of citizens of United States through caring for the animals.
