UK Admission Essay. I regard myself as an individual whose career was meant to be in the financial field, by all standards from a very tender age. There are several factors that have influenced my decision to choose a UK based University and take up a course in Finance and Accounting. First of all Qatar is a growing economy and though I was brought up in a rather privileged background, I was taught early enough the importance of being accountable, especially in matters regarding finances. All through my life, I have been close to matters relating to finances more so from a business perspective. My father passed on when I was still a young boy thus, grandfather took up our guardianship. He had long been a businessman and always demanded that I account for any penny that he would give me. If, and when I needed money from him, he expected me scout for the best prices in town and hand in a well stipulated budget for any penny that I would need. This greatly helped me realize the importance of accounting for expenditures. I may count myself lucky to have enrolled in an American School back in my city where I interacted with people from various nations and cultures. This created an urge in me to learn more of other people’s cultures and ways of life. I figured that one of the best ways to do this was to study and even work in another country other that my own, Qatar. At a very early age , I decide that I would like to undertake studies at a university in the United Kingdom. With such a decision in mind, the other hurdle was to find out which schools could offer what I was looking for, Finance and Accounting. This was not a huge task for me and am glad I have come this far to a point where am now making a request to join your university.for studies in Finance and Accounting My life has greatly revolved around matters to do with mathematics more so derived by my own initiative for the love of calculations. I have always found myself challenging my skills in maths and have been fortunate enough to almost always be at the winning end. In 11th Grade my teacher told me I should take AP Calculus, even though I was a pre-calculus student. He also said that I shouldn’t take AP stats because he thought it would be too hard for me. My impressive performance in maths puts me at an advantage and would ensure that I scope good grades in Finance and Accounting. I may count myself lucky to have had practical experience by working in various fields that require practical application of learnt accounting skills. In 2010, I worked as intern at Al Khaleej Insurance. Although I was assigned to record all the reports such as car crashes, I engaged my mentor who taught me financial management basics of calculating profits, making cash flows etc. While there I also developed my business skills by sitting in meetings with the chairman, my grandfather, which was very insightful for me. Further, the summer of 2011 also brought good tidings for me as I got an internship at Qatar’s Premium Bank , Doha Bank. Here, I learnt the basics of the financial system .I also learnt how to prepare and maintain bank records, cash flows and account management. Currently, I run a real estate business where I am involved in sale and purchase of property. My uncle, who is also my business partner, has greatly helped me grow in the industry by inculcating important management and statistic forecasting skills. The business is flourishing and has good prospects. It is important to underline that a wholesome person is not molded by academic achievements alone. The social aspect of an individual is also important in growing an all round character who can easily interact with people of all walks of life. Personally, this aspect of humanity has been developed by engaging with people of my community in several ways. Early 2012, I volunteered to work for a company called Al Waseef, where I helped employees(immigrants, peons, messengers, and the cleaners) learn English. I am also a member of a students’ group that organizes and makes regular visit to various homes of orphaned children in Qatar where we spend time playing and telling stories. This is a vey fulfilling act of humanity I am also a good soccer player and am involved in organizing tournaments in my city. Between 2006 and 2009, I played in one of the most respected leagues in the country , the Doha Soccer League. At the moment, I am a member of my school soccer team. My love for the game has seen me organize my own soccer team which is trained by a professional coach and an assistant coach. The team, Al-Mirqab FC plays soccer from their own field and has participated in various soccer competitions since 2010. One of the highlight moments for the team is the 2012 win of the Al Maha soccer league. In this competition I was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP). The Al Maha Soccer League (MSL) is another of my brainchild projects and so far has 8 teams that compete for a cup and a cash prize of 20,000 riyals. Participating in these activities has greatly contributed to molding my leadership skills besides making important contribution to the community by helping me develop talents and even assist young people to earn a leaving. To some extent, these contributions have cemented characteristics that I exhibited quite early in life such as leadership. Since the death of my father, I naturally have to offer guidance to my three sisters. Although my role was not majorly provision of basic needs, the role of a pseudo-guardian helped to instill the germs for leadership and maturity in me at an early age. I have thus taken it upon myself to set the academic standards for my entire family. To enhance my skills in leadership, I attended the Astrolabe Leadership Program and I was given an award upon successful completion of the course. This course greatly widened my perspective on what leadership should entail .and deepened my commitment to work towards making change when and where I can. Given that Qatar is a fast growing economy, there are indeed several opportunities for one to grow professionally and also make a positive contribution to the society. It is my believe that once I complete a Finance and Accounting course at your university, I will positively contribute to the greatly needed business knowledge in my country. As earlier indicated, I am a budding investor in the real estate industry. Here, I have had an opportunity to learn what the business environment needs in terms of qualification and experience. Through research, I have established that the real estate sector in the US was one of the hardest hit casualties of the recent global economic downturn(2008-2009).It is my strong believe that individuals with proper training on such matters can help avert such situations by analyzing and forecasting appropriately. I believe that with this training I will be able to make the necessary changes in my home country as well as on a global scene as well. While considering my decision, I have established that studying abroad will come with its set of challenges that am ready to face and overcome. Culture conflict may be one of these hurdles. However, having studied in an American School for eight years, I have learnt how to interact with people of varied cultures and backgrounds. In addition, it helped me develop my spoken and written English. Through this experience, I believe am in a good position to handle the challenges that may be brought forth by a foreign culture. The UK is also not a really new place to me since I have been there during my summer holidays, thus adjusting would be easy for me. Considering these qualifications, I believe that am well suited and equipped to study in your university and I kindly request that you offer me an opportunity. Read More
