ADDIE Training Course Model: The Development Phase COURSE OVERVIEW – SESSION - 1 The aim of the course titled “Employee Involvement in an Organization” is to educate the employees of the Delta Airline to involve in the business processes to enhance the productivity of the organization. Keeping in view the objective of the training course, the first session of the training would introduce the three (3) major and latest concepts of the organizational management. In this interactive session of the training first discussion would be carried out based on the provided handouts, later the employees of the organization would identify their daily routine office work problems. It would facilitate identifying the gap between the concepts/guidelines of the management and prevalent employee involvement in the business processes of the Delta Airline. COURSE OBJECTIVES: The main objective of the course is to enhance the management skills of the employees of the Delta Airline in a way that the employees could be able to develop appropriate standard operating procedures for their organization keeping in view the benefits of the employee involvement model. Moreover, after completion of the training course the participants would have the knowledge and expertise to implement following concepts in the Delta Airline: i- The participants would be able to plan and organize the daily office routine work so that it could be completed within the specified deadline. ii- The participants (managers) would be able to control and manage the staff according to the guidelines provided in the training course. iii- The participants would be able to solve the issues or problems by taking proactive steps. iv- The participants would have information regarding the modern concepts of the organizational management and approaches to solve the problems of the Delta Airline. v- The management would be educated enough to take informed decisions while considering the decision making factors. vi- The employees would have a clear vision and knowledge of the benefits and expected results of implementing the employee involvement model. vii- The employees would be trained enough so that they can be able to develop and implement the employee involvement model in the Delta Airline. COURSE CONTENT The participants would learn from a number of activities in the training course that contains a variety of teaching materials consists of PowerPoint slides, case studies in Portable Document Format (PDF), handouts, group discussions, in class activities and assignments. The following paragraphs show the course contents in accordance with the schedule provided in the design of the ADDIE model submitted before. Management Concepts Session 1 – 1 Timings 09 : 00 – 10 : 00 am Description In the initial part of the first session, the participants would be given the contents of the training course relevant or specific to the Delta Airline organization. Development of Models Teacher Notes/Guidance: The teacher/instructor of this session has to discuss the course contents of the training with the participants, moreover, the instructor has to elaborate the basic concepts of the management including strategic management concepts and general management concepts. Management Functions Session 1 – 2 Timings 10 : 00 – 11 : 00 am Description In the second hour of the first session, the participants would be given the handouts on the management functions. In the following table, the contents of the handouts are given. Handouts Many authors have categorized the management functions into the following five (5) phases: Planning It is the basic management function and involved in each and every step of management. The management of any organization needs to decide in advance regarding what to do, how to do and when to do and these decisions can only be made through proper planning. Organizing Organizing is the process of enhancing the progress/productivity of an organization in achieving the organizational goals by putting jointly the physical achievement, financial progress and human / non-human resources management. Staffing It is the process of managing the human resources keeping in view the structure of the organization and the complexity increases as large as the structure of the organization. As the Delta Airline is one of the largest organizations there is more number of human resources; therefore, it becomes difficult to put the right man on the right job. The staffing has become more complex due to advancement in the technology, the complexity of human behavior and employee involvement. Leading / Directing Directing or leading is the inner-personnel facet of management that facilitate the management to guide, supervise, influence and motivate the sub-ordinates for achieving the organizational goals. The elements of the direction include: the leadership, communication, supervision, and motivation. Controlling The function of the controlling is to validate that the organizational business processes and standard operating procedures are being followed by the employees of the organization. Moreover, it also facilitates to predict if there is any deviation from the organization standards. The following picture shows the five (5) functions of the management and it can be stated that the functions of the management are interrelated and cannot be dealt separately. Teacher Notes / Guidance: The instructor have to discuss with the participants the functions of the management keeping in the above given handouts. The instructor would ask the participant to list down the problems faced by you and categorize those problems into the five functions of the management. The instructor would start the discussion for solving the problems of the employees / participants of the training course. Management Challenges Session 1 – 3 Timings 11 : 00 – 12 : 00 am Description In the third hour of the first session, there would be an open discussion session with the participants. In the following table, the topics for open discussion are given. Open Discussion Topics An open discussion for one (1) would be carried out on the challenges faced by the management. In this discussion the participants would be encouraged to discuss their management problems that they been faced during office work. The instructor would specify some of the management challenges that include: Empowerment, Technology, Culture, Quality, Learning Organization and the other would be identified during the lecture. Teacher Notes / Guidance: The instructor has to start the discussion by specifying some of the management challenges and listen to the problems identified by the participants. The instructor has to provide guidelines or guidance on how they overcome or solve those problems keeping in view the latest concepts of the management. A lunch would be served during the break of 30 minutes (1400 – 1430 Hours). Mode of Teaching In the second session the mode of teaching would be the delivery of the lecture and open discussion. The second session would be comprised of five (5) essential topics of the Employee Management and Involvement includes: decision making, employee involvement model, objectives of employee involvement, expected results / outcomes and development of the model. Class Location Auditorium of the Delta Airline COURSE OVERVIEW – SESSION - 2 The aim of the second session of the training is to develop the managerial skills of the participants to develop an employee involvement model for the Delta Airline. Moreover, the participants would learn to make informed decisions for the betterment of the organization, followed by a case study on getting benefits by employee involvement and ultimately the participants would be guided towards developing the model. Decision Making Session 2 – 1 Timings 12 : 30 – 01 : 00 pm Description The content material of the second session comprises of the PowerPoint slides, a case study in the PDF and in the last there would be a brainstorming session. In the initial part of the second session, the participants would discuss the factors involved in the decision making process. The contents of this session of the training course are given below: Discussion Topics In this session of the training, there would be a discussion on the process of decision making and the factors that need to be considered while taking a decision. Some of the factors include: the current situation, the objectives that could be achieved, how to solve the problem or achieve the objectives, what are the alternatives, and comparison of the alternatives to choose the best. Teacher Notes / Guidance The instructor needs to start the discussion by specifying the factors involved in the decision making and provide guidance to the participants in the matter. Employee Involvement Model Session 2 – 2 Timings 01 : 00 – 02 : 00 pm Description In the second part of the second session, the participants would be given a case study in the PDF format and PowerPoint slides of the employee involvement model. The contents of this session of the training course are given below: Case Study: The effects of Employee Involvement on Firm Performance The participants would be given the case study by Derek C. Jones and Takao Cato on the above mentioned topic. It would be a PDF file and the image of the case study is given below: The introduction part of the case study is given below: Teacher Notes / Guidance: The instructor would discuss the results of the above given case study, the pitfalls described in the case study, the benefits resulted from implementing the employee involvement model and the recommendations given in the case study. The Employee Model – PowerPoint Slides In this session of the training course, the following PowerPoint slides would be presented to the participants of the training: Teacher Notes / Guidance: The instructor needs to introduce the concepts of the employee involvement and the relationship between leadership & culture, employee development, employee involvement and work organization i-e the Delta Airline that would result in employee satisfaction, high performance culture and operational performance that would ultimately lead towards achieving the business or organizational goals. The instructor would explain the above mentioned employee involvement model keeping in view the work or business processes of the Delta Airline. Moreover, the instructor would provide guidance to the participants to develop such employee involvement model for their organization. Objectives of Employee Involvement Session 2 – 3 Timings 02 : 30 – 03 : 30 pm Description In this part of the second session, the participants would be presented the objectives of the employee involvement through the PowerPoint slides. The PowerPoint slides are given below: Teacher Notes / Guidance The teacher would describe the objectives of the employee involvement step by step as given in the above PowerPoint slides and made the mind of the participants that the achievements of these objectives would lead the employees to the job satisfaction and security that would help the Delta Airline to enhance productivity to achieve their desired goals. Expected Results / Outcomes Session 2 – 4 Timings 03 : 30 – 04 : 00 pm Description It would be a short session of half an hour in which the benefits and expected outcomes after implementing the employee involvement model would be presented through the PowerPoint slides. The PowerPoint slides are given below: The following slide shows the expected benefits of applying employee involvement model: Teacher Notes / Guidance The teacher would explain the benefits of the model as given in the slides. Development of Model Session 2 – 5 Timings 04 : 00 – 05 : 00 pm Description As per the design of the training course it is the last session and the instructor would summarize the whole training program by guiding the participants to develop the model for the Delta Airline. There would be no content material for this session. Teacher Notes / Guidance: In the last session of the training program, the instructor would have a list of all the problems of the participants / employees and keeping in view the problems, the instructor would help the participants to develop employee involvement model for the Delta Airline. It would be expected from the participants that they would be able to develop an appropriate model considering all the knowledge they have gained from the training program. If the instructor would find any deficiency in developed model, assistance on the problems / issues of the developed model would be corrected by the instructor. EVALUATION There are two modules of the training course divided into two sessions; therefore, the evaluation criteria for the assessing the participants would be separate for each module. The technique I have selected for evaluation of the participants in the first module is the self-assessment. In order to assess the participants in the first module, the participants would be provided a number of documents for their self-assessment. The documents would contain the multiple choice questions, brief explanations of certain concepts of the organizational management, diverse topics to brainstorm to achieve all the objectives of the employee involvement in the Delta Airlines. A sample of one of the documents – multiple choice questions is given below: Sample 1. Why organizations need to adopt the employee involvement model? 2. List various management functions along with management posts/positions and their roles and responsibilities? 3. What are management challenges and provide guidelines to avoid or solve them? In order to assess the participants for the second module, the participants would be provided documents explaining the certain organizations situation and the participants would be asked to develop s structural model.
