In this essay I will be discussing the important of family crime and why it does not have as much visibility than other types of crime. I will outline the two main aspects of family crime, for example domestic violence and child abuse (Sarage and Muncie in McLaughlin and Muncie). In the 1960s different forms of family crime have become more socially and politically visible. Child neglect was officially recognised in the 1960s’, domestic violent in the 1970s, child sexual abuse in the 1980s and abuse of the elderly in the 1990s (Hotaling and Benidict Strauss 1980). According to the home office domestic violence is defined as ‘any violence between current and former partners which are in an intimate relationship, wherever and whenever it occur’. The violence may include pysical, sexual, emotional or financial abuse. One victimisation survey says that one in four women experience domestic violence and that one quarter of all violent crime consist of domestic violence. Acording to some estimates, one fifth of all violent incidents are made up of domestic violence. This number is very high compare to other types of crime. 1 importance 2 as 3 also 4 crimes 5 became 6 1960s 7 violence 8 Home Office 9 who 10 occurs 11can 12 physical 13 victim 14 According 15 compared 16 crimes All the spellings should be in British English. The growing field of sustainable consumption has offered information to consumers on the climate and environmental impacts of their consumption choices. In general, much of this research has concluded that food, home energy, and transportation together form a large share of most consumers’ personal impacts. Of these three, food represents a unique opportunity for consumers to lower their personal impacts due to its high impact, high degree of personal choice, and a lack of long-term “lock-in” effects which limit consumers’ day-to-day choices. Within the field of consumer food choice, several recent trends associated with environmental sustainability have occurred. The continually increasing penetration of both organic and locally grown food in the U.S. and EU shows that consumers are taking more notice in both how their food is produced and where it comes from. The issue of ‘food-miles’, roughly a measure of how far food travels between its production and the final consumer, has been a consistent fixture in the debate on food sustainability. Other advocates, pointing to research on the environmental effects of livestock production, have urged consumers to shift dietary habits toward vegetable-based diets. Continued on next page Our study found that different food groups exhibit a large range in GHG-intensity; on average, red meat is around 150% more GHG-intensive than chicken or fish. Thus, we suggest that dietary shift can be a more effective means of lowering an average household’s food-related climate footprint than ‘buying local.’ Shifting less than one day per week’s worth of calories from red meat and dairy products to chicken, fish, eggs, or a vegetable-based diet achieves more GHG reduction than buying all locally sourced food. C. L. Weber and H. S. Matthews. (2008), Environmental Science and. Technology, 42 (10), pp 3508–3513. Your notes: 1 Climate change → inc. awareness of ‘carbon footprint’ + avail. of ways to measure consumer responsibility. 2 Consumption choices →environmental effects →increased awareness 3 Sales of local food+ →shows consumers awareness 4 Livestock consumption is – environment → +vegetable consumption 5 CHG intensive food – environment → red meat better compared to fish 6 Eating vegetable and fish →more important than buying local Q2. Writing a Summary from Notes (15 marks) Write your summary in the space provided below From your notes, write a summary of the text in 40-60 words. You must mention the author/s of the sources (probably more than once) within your summary. Don’t forget to use your own words as far as possible. Your summary will gain the most marks if you: 4 acknowledge the source appropriately 5 state the main points 6 use clear and grammatically accurate language 7 use an academically appropriate style Note that any work over the 60-word limit will not be marked. Your summary: Concern about the climate change has increased in the general public. Companies have realized this market niche and are trying to provide more information to consumers (Weber & Matthews, 2008). This is the reason that sales of locally grown products has increased over the last few years. Studies have shown that consumption of grocery creates less pollution, compared to meats. Your chosen essay title: Your essay (maximum of 300 words): There are many different factors which can affect the success students in their academic lives. Over the years there have been many different studies conducted on this topic. However these studies give their own onions which are sometimes even contradictory. There is however consensus over some aspects of this discussion. All studies agree that the initial grooming has a very important role in lying down a foundation for the future. A very integral role is played by the parents in this stage of the grooming. In the initial stages of his childhood, the child needs continuous guidance and help from his parents. Moreover the parents have to ensure that along with physical nourishments, the child also indulges himself in learning activities. Most parents due to lack of time are culprit of buying their children video games and toys. In the long run this can prove to be a very dangerous action. This strategy makes the children lazy and violent. The content of video games should also be closely monitored. This would consequently have a positive impact on the attitude of the children towards their parents. The children need most support from their parents when they are performing below average. The bad performance is a clear indication that the child is having trouble dealing with some issues. These issues can be associated with the home environment or even school. At these critical occasions the parents should indulge in conversation with their children. The child should be encouraged to speak his or her mind. Scolding or punishment only makes the situation worse and creates a gap of communication. End of Alternative Exam Assignment document. Read More
