College Scholarship Application Why I wish to enter medical related vocation, earn a 4 year BS or BA under graduate degree and play college football,track and weight lifting and express how my high school experiences, academic, extracurricular activities, outside activities, and work experiences have prepared me for college. Because medical profession has always been my passion ever since. I wanted to be a doctor while I was a kid and I used to always wonder when I grow up, will I be able to become a doctor myself? This query of mine made me work hard in my studies in every class and I wanted to excel and be at the top in the my class all the time so that when I grow up I have grades that nobody can beat, and I can be accepted easily at the medical school, where I can make my dream come true. I have been passionate about studying medical books and medical encyclopaedia, even though I was just fascinated when I saw the drawings in the books, I always wanted to perform operations and help the humanity with my own hands. This has been my motive all along and one of the reasons that I wanted to join this profession. I grew up in a locality where so many people couldn’t afford good medical attention and I always used to think when I was a child that when I grow up, I am going to make a difference for sure in these kind of peoples’ lives by helping them all along. There, I made up my mind, that when I grow up I would choose this profession and my goal would be to build a huge hospital where all these poor and homeless people could get attention and medical treatments free of charge. Where I thought about all these things, I also am a very extracurricular loving guy. Football and tracking has been my love since I was a small kid. I always played football with my father and two brothers. And, when I grew up I captained the football league of my town. Weight-lifting has not been my cup of tea, but when I was growing up, I was fascinated by all those heavy weight lifters and how they maintain themselves and keep fit. So I also decided to go this way and make a mark of myself in this. Hence, I would do weight lifting in College and play football and tracking would be one of the sports that I would also love to do. Why I need financial assistance I am a very bright student and I as I said above, I always have been a very bright and shining student in my school and high school. However, my father has not been supporting me throughout my school life. He was a businessman and his business didn’t see much profit. This is the reason that we have not been living a very lucrative life and I have not been getting all the things as a kid that I always dreamed of. These deprivations in my life made me a very responsible person and I always have been trying to work extra in my school or high school so that I could also support my studies somehow. I worked in the library at school and I was paid a stipend with which I could afford my studies and buy some books for myself. Even I was not able to buy meals in my school which is why I always have been a deprived kid. Therefore; I think that this financial assistance program is for people like me, and it would certainly help me achieve my goals that I always have been dreaming about. The sole reason and the purpose behind applying for the college scholarship and financial assistance is because I wish to continue my studies even though my parents cannot afford to help me much. And, I do not have skill set enough that I can work part-time and earn myself and afford my studies. However; I would definitely be interested in the part-time jobs offered to me by the college so that I can spend my extra time working for the institute and helping other fellow students somehow. Highlight my future plans college and career My future plans definitely include becoming a surgeon, and not an ordinary one, I would like to become a heart surgeon. These days the diseases and problems associated with heart are so numerous that people are dying without even having the knowledge of their diseases. Even my father has got hypertension and he didn’t know until one day he had stroke and the doctor advised him to rest and take the medicines on time before he gets another one. Medical problems like Heart diseases, i.e. strokes, hypertension, cholesterol, LFT, etc., all are the factors that one could die a silent death. And, it is the duty of the community health workers or the doctors to make t heir patients aware of such problems and the effects of these in the long-term. The reason being that these diseases do not only effect the person but their loved ones too because all of them remain ignorant of the problems until death occurs. So, this would be my main goal to achieve to become a surgeon and if possible build my own hospital where I could treat the patients for free and charge only those who could afford the treatment at the hospital. What do I see as the long term impact of our current recession on the average family? How might it affect the selection committee’s future decision. This current recession has badly affected the average families and low level income families. And, it would certainly affect the decision making process of the committee in the future because more and more people will apply for the financial assistance and most of them would belong to the poor or average families. If they keep on applying at the same pace, it would make difficult for the decision committee to decide which students must get the scholarship as the competition will rise on a numerous scale. Talking about the recession; there is no statistical data available in the current times that confirms the exact number of jobs lost or that presents the number of people who have been finding jobs in the current environment of uncertainty. What families do in these circumstances is that they take loans and these heavy debts account into their accumulative problems which grow and more likely to become humongous. How my participation in sports has affected the person I am becoming. Sports is a good leisure activity and it has always boosted my abilities to study well. I have been a good sportsman all along and I loved to play football, volleyball, tracking and horse riding. I have been an athlete and this has raised my abilities to the optimal level where I can now feel active and feel perfectly healthy. It also affected my power of learning and memorizing things easily and effectively. Sports have made me a normal human being. Not like the other students who used to study with me while I was growing up, they used to watch television all the time and waste their precious time in extra activities which they cannot do or would never want their own children to do. I think doing sports is also healthy and has positive effects on the health of a person long term. One becomes quite active and extra careful in performing tasks as they can think rationally and they feel fresh health-wise. “The better the health status of athletes, the best way they could increase productivity and ultimately lead to more investments in human capital, because healthier people will probably have a longer life span and, hence, a longer amortization period. Second, sport does not only train functional skills like dexterity and balance but it also teaches soft skills like taking orders, leadership, teamwork, performing in a regulated system, and socialization” (Thomas et.al, 2005. p.14) The importance of the American political system that does not list any candidates America follows a Presidential form of governmental system. In this form of system the president is the head of executive branch and the head of all states in the United States of America. He enjoys all the powers that were shared by the previous presidents of the US and as per written in the US charter. He normally is elected by the people and these days by the growing power of media, the candidate are brought forward on the National Television and asked questions that a common man would want them to ask and these candidates respond to these questions naturally in a polite manner making the public satisfied and winning their hearts. Hence, making their parties strong in the coming elections. The two must cooperate in order to be able to exercise their powers. The system of checks and balances between the three co-equal branches of government guarantees democratic procedure. The electoral system in America may be seen by the analysts and the designers of it as a lucrative system but if we see the tangibility of this system in a broader perspective, then what good is it doing to the democratic society that America wants to build all around. Representation or candidacy has been taken in micro cosmic sense in America and more importance has been put on the voting system. However; having said that the voters are not too happy with what they see after they cast their votes as the democracy is still over ruled by the governments at large. Therefore; the final statement would be that the ballot structure has little or no effect in the democratic society of America and neither is there a room for such structure to be followed.
